How Long to Wait For The CAA?

Hi
I submitted my claim to the CAA on the 2nd July following a 24hr delay on a Monarch flight from Sharm to Gatwick in April. I chased after 8 weeks and again after 12 (the original contact from the CAA said to expect to hear nothing for 6 - 8 weeks). In early October I received a response requesting that I make no further non essential contact inc asking for an update as they were working as fast as they could. Fair enough but....time moves on and I wonder if anybody else is waiting for as long - 26 weeks now!

26 weeks is nothing in CAA terms, add another year to that and you might be getting somewhere

I wrote to the CAA in January 2013. I have still had nothing but a holding reply. Fortunately, I also started court action at the same time. I should have a judgement in the next week or two.
One more time in case anyone is in doubt: DO NOT BOTHER WRITING TO THE CAA; THEY ARE NOT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. Thank you for listening.

SuperSeagulls - 15 months for me but I gave up some considerable time ago and took Monarch to court - after being awarded compensation and costs I have sent 5 emails to them seeking clarification/comment on other aspects and other than the standard acknowledgement email I have yet to receive a response - they are a total waste of time.0

OK - many thanks for those replies. I only bothered with them because my legal expenses insurer wanted me to deal with them first before they would fund my case. I'll get back to them.0

Here is a quick 'time line' summary of my dealings with the CAA to give you an idea of what you can expect form them.
29th October 2012. 5.5 hour flight delay.
17th January 2013. Send written request to CAA for compensation after airline refuse.
19th March 2013. Request acknowledgement from CAA that my complaint has been received as no acknowledgment or confirmation etc received from them.
13th August 2013. Request CAA to drop my case as now in the hands of Bott and Co following NO contact from them at all.
24th October 2013. Receive an apology from CAA for lack of response promising they are still doing all they can to help me!!!! They still think they are dealing with my complaint following my email for them to drop the case.
2nd December 2013. Bott and Co inform me that the airline have agreed to settle my case and pay compensation.
5th December 2013. CAA inform me they have dropped my case because "Due to the difference of opinion between the airline and us on the interpretation of the law"
In my opinion the CAA are useless at helping consumers. If you avoid them altogether and just take your case to court yourself or use a NWNF company you will save lots of time and frustration. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Tyzap: the message from the CAA on 5 Dec says it all really.
In my case, the CAA apparently wrote to Monarch twice and received no response. What kind of regulator is apparently ignored by those it seeks to regulate? Either one utterly inept or, more likely, complicit in the airlines' misbehaviour in my view.0 -
Hi, i wrote to CAA in April or March and still havent heard a word from them. I settled my own claim without any help from CAA.

Hi.
Got an ongoing claim with TC from a Fuerteventura flight march 2013. Its been with the CAA since June 2013 and I cannot get any info or response. Other people on the flight are having no response either. How do you contact them to find out what stage the claim is at. They do not ever seem to respond.
Any ideas please?0
