Anyone recommend a cheap drill for drilling into external brick/mortar?
I've seen some in Argos for £25 will these do?
I've got an old cordless drill from about 15 years ago but it's not up to the job.

What sort of drilling? Fixing stuff to the wall - 18V cordless will do (and generally good for most jobs around the home). Drilling through the wall to install pipes and cables - SDS drill.0

Just fixing stuff to wall. E.g drain pipe brackets.0

I'd go for a mains powered percussion/hammer drill.
At <£50 it's all generic, no-name, type products, so they'll probably do the job but how long they'll last is anyone's guess. Perhaps buy it from somewhere with a good returns policy in case there's any problems.0 -
Depends on what bricks you are drilling as some engineering bricks are very hard so an SDS would make light work of the drilling0

Just normal red house bricks. Don't want to spend loads as don't know when I'll next be using it.0

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
You need a mains drill.
You need an SDS drill.
You need some drill bits.
As above, maker is irrelevant if you are doing a few diy bits.
Bosch? B&D?, Makita?, etc. etc.
For me DeWalt have yet to fail.
Take your pick, just heed points 1 and 2.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Love to see the sds drill for £25!
RussPerfection takes time: don't expect miracles in a day0 -
Do this sort of stuff often. My cordless 18v Dewalt hammer drill with a decent bit does 8mm holes in brick with ease.
No need for SDS on this type of work.
Agree with Southcoastgirl ; when they have them in stock the drills in Lidl (and Aldi) are well worth buying with the long warranty.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Thanks, might wait for the Lidl drill this week.
Meanwhile I have been looking at this one from Screwfix. Any good?0
