Have you ever received gifts you have given someone, back as a gift?

How on earth did they stop the children opening the packaging on all the gifts from you last year? My would have had them open to have a good look.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I've never had the same present back but I found myself in the situation this year just gone whereby I'd given someone the same present as they gave me, which was embarrassing.0

My only suggestion would to make sure that the next present you buy them is something that your DD would like.
This is what I was going to suggest.
To answer your question OP, no it hasn't happened to me and I wouldn't do it either. Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation? :cool:0 -

Embarrassing? That's a shame. I would have been quite pleased I reckon. I always try and give friends something I'd like myself. I would say 'Ooh, good taste in presents!' with a wink

I have a 'presents' box that I top up and check first when I need to give a gift, maybe they do something similar, added your gifts for whatever reason and forgotYes Your Dukeiness

I always give a present I think the other person will like. So I think what happened at Christmas was my neighbour gave me something she thought she would like and I gave her something I thought she'd like.
Does that make sense?

I mentioned on another thread, that my husband's oldest friend and his wife routinely recycle gifts. A few years ago I got a Christmas present from them. The gift had a tag tucked inside it, to the wife from somebody else.
I must admit I was a little disappointed, and if it had been a present that I'd given her, I'd probably feel a bit upset.
In this case it seems very blatant. I think it I was the OP, I'd give edible presents in future, which would be more difficult to re-gift.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I'd be suggesting that you knock the whole present giving thing on the head. What's the point of buying anyone a gift if they're going to stick it in a box?"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

I honestly have no answers as I do not know.
For birthdays recently we have been giving money - these were gifts from last xmas, I thought one was birthday but it wasn't. I do all of the buying (let's be honest, if it was down to DH no-one would get anything, even a card) so whether I tell him or not will have no impact on what we buy for the future so, for me, it wasn't worth upsetting him over it.
There are not many of us in the family so not many presents knocking around to be gifted. All the males give money/vouchers where I am the only one that gives gifts really, other than MIL and I doubt she would have given these types of gifts.
I'll be honest - I was shallow enough to have a sneaky peek to check whether they had been opened first, LOL, but no the packaging was intact and the seals were on the boxes.
What is bugging me I suppose is whether it was done intentionally. It's been niggling at my brain since xmas day and just wanted someone to vent to I suppose as I have not seen anyone outside the family to tell.0
