I had a similar experience on boxing day just gone, buying a laptop in the sales, my other half said no about five times, before saying he would walk out if the guy kept on. The member of staff responded by saying he "didn't want to be there any more than we did" erm, we DID want to be there, that he didn't want to be working, and that he was only trying to fill time before the laptop got brought down from the warehouse. He then ignored us until it was brought down, took my money without a word, and said "there you go" once the transaction was complete. I've workedin retail, over Christmas, I know it's horrible, but I also know you don't speak to customers like that. I should have complained but it's a bit late now.

Well after today I shall no longer be setting foot in PCWorld!
Went into my local branch after doing a click and collect order for a new laptop. The salesman tried to sell us all the add ons which is fine - I am entitled to say no thanks which I did.
He started by offering installation to which I said no thanks - Im competent enough to do that myself to which he replied "I,m not saying your incompetent but" ....
I was clearly communicating both verbally and bodily that I did not want, need or have time to listen to the sales talk, but instead he became very defensive and snapped at me saying he was only trying to help and I should be grateful!
I was within a second of walking out of the store and going elsewhere when he clearly got the hump with me and stormed off to get the said laptop and remained grumpy and silent for the rest of the transaction.
Next time I;ll go to Amazon!

Why did you continue with the purchase? If you hadn't paid, I'd have just left.

I hate PCW but sometimes if I need something sameday for home or for work and they are OK on price then I will buy from them. But I always say:

"Hello, I want to buy this, but if you try to sell me Knowhow or any extended warranty then I'll walk straight out without buying. Is that a yes or no?"

I've walked once out of 10 times I think.

  • I bought a cheapish inkjet printer from PC World. About six months down the line the printer kept showing a paper feed error, although I couldn't find anything wrong.

I took it back to the store, and a couple of the helpful chaps on the tech desk pulled it apart and after about 20 mins found a miniscule piece of wallpaper (god knows how it got in there) deep inside the paper feed. They whipped it out and sent me on my way with a smile.

Great customer service. A service I couldn't have got for free if I'd bought via Amazon.

    Cheers
    Jim
