Why are you IT EXPERTS so scathing when you impart your knowledge to those of us who are not!
We are all experts in our particular field and ready to help with qeestions that to us are very simple due to the knowledge we have.

I went in our local branch once to buy a printer - it did what I wanted, was on offer, and it was in stock. The salesman approached and did his utmost to sell me everything on top that he could - that failed. Do you REALLY need anti virus software with a printer? Next ploy was to get me to purchase another make and model, twice the price of the one I wanted! I stuck to my guns, so he went off to the stock room to get my printer.

The next thing I know, he had returned with the second, more expensive model! I demanded the original one, but he said as I obviously didn't know anything about printers he was doing me a favour! I demanded to see the manager - the original printer mysteriously appeared and I have not set foot in there since!

I haven't seen anyone being "scathing" on here. A lot of us do help on here where we can, giving up our own time to share our knowledge. Just because we take payment for these this as part of our jobs isn't taking advantage.

My driving instructor charges me for my lessons, should I expect him to impart his knowledge free of charge?

Try looking on the Technical board and you will find expert people offering help and lots of it without once being in any way scathing, condescending or in anyway other than helpful.

Maybe not scathing, but referring to people who ask for advice as incompetent isn't exactly being polite is it?
Why not just call them unknowledgeable instead?
The majority of people in my experience are just incompetent when it comes to computers. They can double click the blue e, they can go to google. For a lot of people, that is just it.

Seeing you you have been required to ask for help with financial matters many time (and you have always received lots of advice), you appear to be as incompetent as the people who ask you for help.

Well after today I shall no longer be setting foot in PCWorld!

Next time I;ll go to Amazon!

Bought my laptop from Amazon a few months ago, a lot cheaper than PCWorld & Argos. Free postage & was with me in less than 48 hours!

Really annoys the hell outa me in these stores, as soon as you walk in the sales ppl more or less jump on you. I know they are only doing their job, but sometimes they are just too pushy.

Online saves the hassle of being hassled for extras!!!

Because a lot of people are proud to remain ignorant to technology.

Surely someone asking for help and advice on a certain matter shows that they don't wish to remain ignorant.
