This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Morning all!

Sammy-cat wouldn't eat his supper last night so was hungry and woke me at 5:15am. I could have done with another couple of hours but hey ho. At least the work of the day will be done early and I can settle down with my knitting.

The weather sounds a lot calmer today and I hope it is so for all of us. The forecast yesterday involved snow just a little south of Glasgow so I will be keeping an eye on the sky today. I don't do snow!

NSD yesterday although I have to confess that the Shopping Demon was whispering on my shoulder. I might get another today. I should get another today as I've spent this week's spending money and don't 'pay' myself until tomorrow.

    Today's jobs:

    1. Harvesting leaves/herbs in the greenhouse.
    2. Weeding in cold frame.
    3. Prepare small pots to sow tatsoi in greenhouse.
    4. Prepare small pots to sow strawberry in greenhouse.
    5. Prepare trough in cold frame to sow spinach.

All of this takes place at M&D's house so I'll get a bracing(!) walk there and back too :)

  • Morning NJL & all who cross post & follow
Raining here today, fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each, I'll do breakfast later.
I need to tidy the living room & I've a couple of boxes of junk to sort out too, and the beds need changing, apart from that I shall mainly be knitting baby clothes.
I'm not doing much today and tomorrow I shall cook a few meals for next week, otherwise I shan't get through the week.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all. I haven't posted for a long long time but my resolution is to make time for the things I want to do so no longer having time is no excuse :) although I have been reading everyday.
I have had a rubbish sleep but as we are scattering my grandmas ashes today I was not a surprise. Why does this part feel worse than the funeral on 20th Dec?
Other than that I am making platters of sandwiches as after scattering we are all going to my sisters for soup and sandwiches and no doubt some laughter and tears.
Hoping everyone has a great day and stays safe in the bad weather

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Still dark, not raining at the moment (forecast is for rain all morning) and breezy but not as blustery as it has been over the last few days. Can now hear the rain has started as it hits against dining room window.

DH up and had brekkie and cuppa, now getting ready to go to his meeting. I'm just enjoying a peaceful cuppa - will get a shower and brekkie shortly - have a 9am nail appointment, so need to be getting organised. Boys still fast asleep in their pits - but it is rather early!

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fish, jacket potato and salad. Not sure what we will be eating tonight but need to organise something so we don't fall into the takeaway trap - will do that whilst I'm out and about this morning.

Was reasonably productive yesterday got the jobs I wanted to get done achieved, today I have 1 or 2 chores on the list I want to get done, so will see how I get on. DH will be gone pretty much all day - I don't expect to see him until after 4pm this afternoon - so have the day to myself. Boys will do their own thing.

Managed to not spend a stupid amount in the SM's yesterday - but haven't planned terribly well and now don't know what we're having for tonight's dinner - very often on a weekend we have something that's either really easy and doesn't take much prep and cooking or something a bit more complicated as I have time to do it whilst not at work. Today will be a quick and easy type meal I think! May do some baking as the the tins are now empty - so there's nothing for pack ups or desserts.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,
Still wet and windy here. Really quite cold too.
The plan was to get up early, usually by 6ish and then go and get the shopping done. Failed that one as i didn't get up until getting on for 7.30. I hate going later in the morning as it really gets busy, don't like the crowds.
HoneyB17, thinking of you today. I found that while we had the ashes of my Auntie there was still kind of like a link, something to still have. When the ashes were scattered it seemed final. It hasn't been very long since your Grandmas funeral so your emotions are still very raw. xx
A mountain of ironing to do today, strip the beds and hoover through.
Tea tonight is chicken breast with jacket potato and whatever salad i have in the fridge.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning.
Sitting with a coffee waiting for shopping to arrive - I know it's not very OS but I definitely spend a lot more by going to the sm myself rather than shopping online - I'd still like to bring the cost down a bit though!
I'm not sure there can be much more rain up there! Absolutely pouring down again. Will wait for a break in it and take the pooch for walkies.
Will spend some time doing something for me this afternoon whilst OH and boys are at footie, but first I must tackle the ironing (again!)
Will throw a chilli in the slow cooker for later to have with rice and salad.
Honey, I hope your day isn't too painful, and that you and your family find some comfort in your good memories.
Hope you all have a safe, warm and dry day x

    Morning all

Hope everyone kept safe and dry in yesterday's storms

    honey (((hugs)))

Dropping dd1 at the hairdressers this morning , then we are off to do our food shopping , she is going back to uni tomorrow so she will do her shopping and I'll do mine .

I need to pick up a jumper I ordered from the j0hn lew!s sale this afternoon , we also have vouchers for a free drink and cake in the JL cafe so we can make an afternoon of it :D

Dd2 is staying at home to revise and will be on postie look out for a book I ordered.

Going to go through dd1s finances today too , I bought her a planner so she can sort out all her payments and make sure she has money ready to pay her bills , this is the 1st time she has lived away where she needs to pay bills lol as last year all her bills were included in her rent . So hopefully if she has it all written down and the money ready in a separate bank account she will be ok .

    Have a lovely weekend everyone

    Morning all,

I expected a disturbed night but slept like a baby. One of the houses over the road has lost a fascia board but otherwise we seem OK here unlike poor souls elsewhere.

I cooked 11 meals for the freezer yesterday and have the urge to do another batch cook today with the frozen chicken, so we'll nip out and buy a few more veg and the really useful 'tip n zip' freezer bags. I have problems with dexterity due to my RA, but these suit me very well as I struggle to grip flimsy bags.

I think I'll do some ironing this afternoon so I can watch a film ;)

    Stay warm and safe x

Lyn, thinking of you and your family today.

Yvieblue, I always do online supermarket shopping as it is easier for me as I don't drive plus my energy levels are poor due to health issues. It also allows me to spend more time doing other housework.

It will be a day of staying in as it is raining heavily. I have started to set up my diary planner and I got over my perfectionist tendencies of needing to colour code all my written entries, and just got going with a bic pen! I am listing my no spend days, grocery challenge totals, weight loss Challenge details, daily menu plans and household jobs achieved. Hopefully, this will help me keep track.

Must get a move on, need to make some porridge for our breakfast, then HAVE TO do a food audit and menu plan for the week. If not too exhausted need to start on a pile of ironing, well at least do hubby's work shirts.

Hugs to all those who are struggling today.

  • Good morning all

Wet and windy here today, not going anywhere today, we was going to do a tip run this morning but dh's wrists are both playing him up, they are both swollen, blooming arthritis, so a day in home relaxing not doing alot is in order for him today, well that is the plan but he can be a right pain, he never sits down always has to be on the go tinkering with something.

plans for today are for me to carry on decluttering, starting with the bureau in the living room, everytime I put something in there half the contents fall out so its gotta be done, also want to finish the ironing and thats about it, need to nip farm shop for a swede and a few leeks.

dinner tonight is chilli and rice, ds won't eat rice so he can have it with pasta

Honey - ((hugs)) will be thinking of you today x

Hope everyone has a lovely day ((hugs)) to those that need them x
