  • Just caught up on Fred!
Small spend of £1.90 yesterday on a £1 loaf and 12 free range eggs YS from Mr T for 90p!!!! Then used 4 of these to bake a yummy Victoria sponge. Also made two batches of veggie soup yesterday so lunches for rest of week. Sig updated.

Little Bill ?- I always do a big top up shop at beginning of month as DH takes me. Then do biggish shops in Home Bags and A**i, local butchers, and greengrocers now from this month for 12.5kg bag of potatoes (£3.99).

Then I make a list of possible meals and lunches to put on the kitchen noticeboard so can cross off when used up. That saves us having chicken 3 nights on the trot:rotfl:

We now have enough main meals in until 16th. As we are away only need 9 more so will shop for those as see bargains (ever hopeful) or as part of my weekly top up for bread milk and veg etc.

Just give it a try and see how you go - you can always adapt if it doesn't work out for you.

  • Oh the joy of YS! Got 4 Covent Garden soups (DH and I will have 1 a day for lunch with home baked bread), 2 packs of Leeks, 4 pints of milk, 2 loaves of bread (for freezer)... all for £2.54! I am finding this challenge tough, I have no idea what we were spending on Groceries before but I am glad i don't know tbh. Thanks to all for the inspiration... Annual budget working much better for me as i don't run out of stuff and then blow the next months budget by the 3rd day of the month!

All I must buy tonight is:

    - Milk 3 for £3
    - Basmati rice £1.40
    - Carrots £0.89
    - Broccoli (going for frozen £1.20)
    - Apples £1.00
    - Tinned pineapples £0.65

    Total: £ 8.14

I will report later how well/bad I did. Wish me luck!

Morning! That went well. Obviously Gala Apples at £1 were not waiting for me at 5.45pm, so I went for pears instead.
All the carrots there were for £1 a Kilo, not £0.89 (or £ 0.78 for 600g)..BUT I remembered of a "£0.40 off your next shopping" that I had and that brought the whole thing down to £7.85!! Less than I predicted!

Could not wait to post, so now I am off to read the last 2 pages! Later!

  • NSD yesterday and hopefully again today
Made split pea and ham soup yesterday with the LO ham - despite DHs protest the whole family enjoyed it (I still have lots for lunches this week) I made some HM white bread rolls to go with it - they were great (Made the dough in bread maker and split into 8) - also made lemon muffins (with lemon curd that had been sitting in cupboard) so we have plenty of homemade buns in for snacks!!
Just cooked bolognese sauce with some turkey mince from freezer - will make that into a lasagne tomorrow and I have some pasta flour so will make own pasta so shouldn't need to shop tomorrow either
Tonights dinner is a slow cooked beef silverside joint which I will do with mash and carrots, broccoli and green beans

    NSD yesterday.

Credit card spending for the weekend has come through - 132.91! :eek:Although some of that was on petrol. Need to fill up again this week, so will definitely be over budget this month.

    *********
GC budget still the same at 93ish. Off to lunch for colleague, so hopefully will not be drawn into any spends.

    *****
Dinner last night of cottage pie plus (low fat) cheesy leeks.

    I love my bread maker
I have a Panasonic which cost an arm and a leg (see siggy, it's part of that horrific debt!;)) and I definitely prefer it to other makes. My original breadmaker was a panny and when it eventually died I was given a Woolworths one (Woolies:D!!!). I hated that bread and quickly replaced it with a Morphy Richards that I had seen discussed on here - not happy with that, either:o In the end I gifted it to someone else and bought a panny again.

I would say 'Yes! Get a good sized slow cooker!':D I've got two slowcookers a huge Morphy Richards 7L one and a smaller 3.5L Crockpot - I use the smaller ones to make porridge over night for breakfast, stew fruit, make yogurt, rice puddings...they really are worth the space and save so much time - you just chuck it all in and forget about it! I've seen veggies on here say that they end up with brown mush, but I don't think they are using the slow cooker to it's potential! You can make lovely tomato based sauces for beans, pasta sauces, macaroni/cauli cheese, curries...the list is endless!!

Thanks for the tips on BMakers and SCookers. I will do a bit of research before I plunge in!
