Thought I had a genius idea to stop me overspending - was going to get a Tesco gift card with my budget on so when it's empty, so will the kitchen be. Then read the small print and discovered you can't pay for groceries with it! Glad I noticed before I bought one. Still, will be moving at the end of Feb to a Sainsbug's area and they do have grocery gift cards, so might try it out then. Anyone know if I'd still get Nectar points if I paid with a gift card?

Sarah - check this because I understand it to mean you cant buy groceries ON LINE with it but can in the store. Below is from the Tesco gift card site -

What can I buy with a Tesco Gift Card? It can be spent in our stores nationwide or online at tesco.com, direct**, entertainment and wine by the case. Sorry, you cannot use your Tesco Gift Card to buy groceries, books or clothing online yet, but we are working on it.
Please let me know if you find out for certain.

I dropped off the challenge a couple of months ago but need to climb back on board
Essentials only this month - no YS items as I always end up spending on other non essential items. Only going to shop online, no impulse buys. I have a £9 voucher from Mr T on a £60 spend. I'm going to use that first so please can you put me down for 125.00

This is the first month of trying this - and I come from a position of denial. I set myself a £10 a day budget for 5 but having spent the day yesterday working out to the penny (via Tesco and Asda online) the meals for the month (I also forgot 5 x packed lunches each day in my original calcs) that I'd like to re-set to £360.
Rather come in under budget for my first try than get all disheartened and admit defeat.
First purchase is 47.34 on batch cooking (cottage pie and chilli) so have the basis of 50 meals (10 x 5 people) to set us up for Feb, and also March.

    Morning folks :)
February's budget started yesterday for me, so can I please be put down for £200 again for 2 adults & 2 fussy cats :) although I was under budget in January, I'm not going to try reducing it this month as we're running low on meat so will need to refill freezer, but hopefully will get a couple of months worth out of it. Have learnt loads from everyone here, so thank you :T
Good luck with Feb folks :)

Hi there, I would like to try again this month for £500. After January's epic fail I would like to see how close I get to my target this month. I have a very expensive month in March with lots of birthdays so I would like to save some money for those. I am not buying any takeaways either this month so that should save me quite a bit.

I'm being whisked away for lunch today by my lovely hubby (he's paying lol) and then I'm cooking pizza tonight for my girls and grandchildren. This will only cost a few pounds rather than £30 from our local takeaway.

Another NSD for me today as did most of the shopping yesterday so that will be NSD #6 since 24 Jan when my "Feb" month started.

Will probably need to spend a few pounds tomorrow on some yoghurts.

Morning everyone - yay it is pay day! First week of month starts tomorrow but just had to get some food in the cupboards.

Please may I also have the Creamy Tarragon pork recipe? Sounds yummy.

Sainsbobs do give points if you use a gift card - I used to use one all the time but only got a small local near us so it was expensive.

Been with my jazzy trolley to Mr A - for 8 am and it was packed - spent £16.93 there, then £5.99 at local butcher, £4.25 Home Bags, £4.45 on YS in MnS!! and £3.99 on a 12.5kg bag of potatoes that should last us at least 5 weeks. Morries £0.97 on milk 69p cauli YS and £7 for 2 washing liquid offer - but they will be off March and April. Should have got there before the weather breaks. OOPS = missed it - front came in early and got sleeted on but just on the way back! :rotfl:

Updated signature and now planning NSDs - unless can get small tins of corned beef in another H Bags tomorrow.

    Have a good February everyone.xx
