Have done the main weekly shop today and managed to come in at £26.46 split between Mr T's and Mr M's. Want to get a couple of pork joints from Mr S when I go shopping on Tuesday - didn't do today as it's the opposite direction to Mr Ts!

What I do when I get a bulk buy is divide by length of time it's likely to last. In your case because you got 3 bottles I would divide the cost by 3 and deduct from monthly budget for each of the next 3 months, ie £3.33 per month for Feb, Mar & April.

Perhaps you could do this too?

    Denise

    Brilliant idea - I hadn't thought of that :o
I think I'll divide the cost over four months, as the bottles are for 26 washes (26 X 3=78 washes) and I only do four washes a week (live on my own) so I shall put down £2.50 per month for the next four months. :T

    Hello there!

Tuesday: £1 for bread + £0.75 for porridge oats. Signature already updated.

    Yesterday: almost a NSD. :A
Only £0.40 in a coffee machine! I was out most of the day and I brought a HM sandwich. Quite proud to take my non-professional foil and cling film wrapped sandwich out of my bag at lunch time!

    Today: NSD

Keep up the good work, people!!

PS: Tonight is going to be Creamy Tarragon Pork (home-made ready-made) with rice + steamed carrots and broccoli.

Recipe please? This sounds right up my street!

    NSD yesterday.

Dinner was chicken fajita pizza with garlic mayo dip. Lovely and not too much effort which was much needed.

Going to try and not go to the supermarket this week. Running low on veg, so going to have a look in the cupboards and freezer to see if I can dredge something up. I know I have some peppers, but had pepper in meals for the last 3 days, so hoping I've got some sweetcorn knocking about.

Baking adventure did not go, friend decided to buy a cake instead - naughty naughty!
Might buy them a cookbook as a present!

  • Hello everyone

Can I join the Feb GC please with £250 for the month.

Did the challenge on here for several months last year which got me thinking about our shopping habits and so have been doing the challenge in the background for a while working out how best to do things and now ready to join in again.

Over the last few months I've almost completely changed the way we shop. Was doing fortnightly main supermarket shop with small top ups for bread/milk inbetween, this has now changed to a biggish shop only when needed (max once a month) and shopping more locally the rest of time.

Meat is now from our local butcher, works out only slightly more than supermarket but the meat is so much tastier.

Toiletries & cleaning bits mainly from Sav'ers (Dri Pak Soda Crystals 79p there at the mo!) or Morries.

Other groceries etc from smaller shops locally or wait til have a big enough list and do a big shop inSains.

Strict buying when on offer unless an emergency now applies, but usually manage to still keep good stocks by keeping an eye for offers/ys when out and about all the time. I do keep an eye on mysupermarket for prices but have found that the local offers seem to be as good as the main s'markets so save by not buying the 'other' stuff which ends up in the trolley.

I feel as though I have gone back to the style of shopping when I was a child. Butchers for meat, local for most things, supermarket once in a while.

The upshot is we spend less and, while on occasion run low, on the whole have more than enough to last without much problem.

Sorry for the long post not been on for a while :)
