  • OP - Diabetes is further complicated by Addison's and most doctors do not understand this as it is very rare so as I understand it it is not unusal for the wrong treatment to be prescribed in hospital.

My contact with experience of the disease recommends that you join the three Facebook groups about the disease and post your questions there. She has found them very helpful and knowledgeable.

  • My Grandmother had addisons and My Dad was a diabetic and neither had behaviour problems. You have to decide whether you are prepared to put up with him acting like this and basically being abusive and nasty
Those illnesses do not cause abusive behaviour, maybe he has depression which can cause irritability and mood swings etc.
I'd be talking to him about it, there is help there for him he can have a mental health assessment done, but can you really stay with someone who behaves like that? What about you? I would be giving serious thought to moving on.Theres plenty of decent men who are fun loving and respectfull. Let him be rude and controlling by himself.

You are ignoring the fact that Addison's and diabetes interact making the control of blood sugar much harder and that OPs partner also has a brain injury.

OP I hape you can find some answers, help and support from people with experience of the two conditions together. I suspect your partner may be in a minority of one in having to factor in a brain injury as well.
    Good luck.

Even posting on here has given me some idea of the assumptions people make, even how the medical profession deals with his issues. The tone I got is that he is over-reacting (even when the medical professional said he/she knew very little about Addison's!).

I believe people choose a career in the medical profession because they care, that there is passion and purpose: but I've no reason to lie about his frightening experiences, nor does he.

If you're referring to me, I'm not actually a medical professional, I'm still training. ;)

However, the first thing I did when I read your post was a medline search for Addison's and Diabetes. There are lots of articles/studies about how these two conditions complicate each other.

If you want to read a few, the free version is calked 'pubmed', put pubmed Addison's diabetes into Google and you'll get plenty of useful results as a starting point for your research.

I don't know how a lay person can start to unbundle the cause and effect of [text removed by MSE Forum Team] - all of which require input from half a dozen medical specialisms.
How many consultants does he see for regular review and how often do they see him?
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Actually, after those last two replies, I don't feel I have the energy to read and respond any more. I get the hint.

I very much appreciate everyone who showed patience and tried to help.
