friend/money dilemma

  • I would try to create as little hassle for yourself as possible.

Ask if she is going to keep the washer and pay you £70 or return it to you so you can sell it. Highlight you need the cash for baby things.

You don't want to have to collect it from her and arranging a sale from her place will be a hassle so don't provide these options, at least not initially

If she doesnt want to buy it any more and is using the old one then why not sell it on eBay etc and just have the buyer collect it from her address rather than yours? Saves you having to cart it around twice and she'd have to wait in whoever is collecting it - you could always be there when its collected.

Advertise it on ebay (free upload until this sunday) asking buyer to collect from her address, that way you get your money back and don't have to go to the expense of hiring a van, win win:D

If it's just cluttering up her house she might be glad to be rid of it, but if she's actually using it she needs to pay you for it. I'm no expert but plumbing in a washing machine is no biggie, - you just need to connect up the hose to the water supply! Perhaps there was a blockage somewhere.

Send her a text asking her when you can get the money or if you can collect . She may have been using your one all this time.

I don't see why the OP should have to arrange collection, her friend should be either giving her the money or delivering it back to her.

You don't really need a large car or van to move a washine machine, you can get one into most hatchbacks.

me and OH both drive small cars (mines a Ka!) so picking it up isn't an option.

I think I'm just gonna leave it a few more days then text her, she might have just forgotten with all the Christmas celebrations etc.

    Are you on Facebook?

There's a local FB selling page near to me (and probably one near to you too), people offer all the time to collect things (for a fee) but it must be a lot less than it would cost to hire a van.
