Well done! How much time can you afford to spend on it each week, just out of interest?

I can do a full day most weekends plus a couple of hours in the evening :)

Well done on the allotment. Just checking in that the birds attacked five of my tomatoes plants that I put out during the day yesterday. May keep them indoors today.
Spend less now, work less later.

I've been and chosen my allotment this morning :j

I had a choice of two. One 98m2 and the other 107m2.

The biggest one had redcurrants already there, but needed a huge amount of work to clear it.

The smaller one has blackberries and strawberries, is closer to the shed and water and needs much less doing to it. It's also got a little patio :D and even a little "front garden" :D:D

So this afternoon I've been and bought a load of reduced plug plants to give me a head start. Hopefully I'll get the keys ready for next weekend so I can get up there and spend Saturday clearing it and Sunday planting

I've already picked up some great tips from the other plots. I'm itching to get up there :rotfl:

I'm so happy for you! I'm now helping out a friend on her allotment and she comes to my gigantic garden once a month. It's so much more fun not to be completely on your own and to swap seedlings and tips. You'll have a great time! :)

I'm back! What did I miss?

My neighbour did a stirling job while I was away. He and I have split the radishes out this afternoon because they've gone mental. I have little teeeeeeny flowers on the chili, and the cauli, cabbage and courgettes are definitely ready to plant out.

I don't know if you remember we were hoping to have some use out of the land at the back of our house (see last year's thread)? Well, there's been no movement other than the rise of the dreaded knotweed....so the grandson of the former owner is popping round tomorrow. We'll see what happens.

You missed me eating my first tatties and moaning about the rain, so not much.

Yes I remember it from last year, still not sure it's a good idea.

Had a lovely day in the garden. New tenants have moved into the flat below and seem nice enough well, they haven't complained about the vast number of canes that are 3-4' taller than the fences.

Put the last 2 toms in their final pots, well they would be the last 2 if I hadn't spotted the suttons offer on the grab it why you can thread, so now I have 3 grafted toms coming, along with lavender plugs and 40 bedding plugs for £5.99 inc delivery.

Picked up a pot, looked at the label that said white cucumber, looked at the plant and thought, no that's definitely a courgette, it has baby courgettes on it, so that's going to my sons as I have 3 courgettes already.

Potted on to final pots loads more chillies, sweet peppers, and planted 2 bns plants, the rest got potted on again because where they're going isn't clear of spuds yet, must eat more spuds next week.

Thinking on it, I didn't see my leeks today, must look harder tomorrow, they're there somewhere.

Parsnips were thinned with scissors, armpits nipped off from toms, and tops nipped of broad beans because first black fly just starting to gather.

The first red strawberry the snails got, but the 2nd was mine :D and very tasty it was too, along with the 1st raspberry. And because there was only one it didn't seem worth sharing with hubby

For planting and harvesting guides 3 are on the link below. 1 for veg, 1 for fruit and 1 for herbs. If you put your location in the top right hand corner it adjusts for where you live.

Could you tell me a bit more about this?

I notice some pesky little slow moving flies hovering around mine yesterday, is that possibly black fly?
Should I be checking the leaves for them collecting on the plant itself?

You can tell I'm new :o

My minibel tomatoes seem to be doing well since thinned out and put on cells.
My other toms (started earlier) dont seem to be doing very much. They're in large pots, but i think I need some different feed for them.

Had some free herb seeds come from the RHS, there's 10 different ones in there so quite excited by that. Not sure how to plant them though, whether to sow them into a planter and see what happens or sow them into some cell trays to get them started first and can then select the strongest one to put into a planter.....

  • Sorry, haven't posted for ages...too much of life stuff getting in the way...

So a couple of good days at the allotment. The onions, garlic and shallots all looking very well, as are the potatoes. The broad beans are flowering with the first pods forming, so will keep an eye for black fly etc. peas not really happened, carrots and parsnips rather hit and miss too. Planting more peas under some better protection to see if that helps.

The strawberries are on flower and first fruits coming on, as are the raspberries. Dug the trenches for the climbing and runner beans and filled them with manure. Tomatoes in the greenhouse, leeks and Brussel sprouts planted out today. Have broccoli and kale seedlings coming through.

Boy can my plot grow weeds!! There have been some failures but at least it is coming together a bit....just in time for us to go on hols for 2 weeks! Friday will be watering and tidying everything up and then fingers crossed...

Hope everyone else is having fun!
