ok update :D the thread has just motivated me to close my eyes and GO FOR IT! 15 mins of madness and ..... dishwasher unloaded and reloaded and on, washing machine on, bin emptied :D oh yes! feeling rather pleased ... need another zillion of these moments and i will be over the moon lol :D *high five me* xx

Wow just think how much you could have done if you hadn't had your eyes closed :rotfl:

Another vote for the messy thread here as well, I was a bit nervous at first as everyone seemed to know each other but everyone is welcome and you soon feel part of it.

  • Sat down to check on replies after a little spree of tidying. Going to head on over the the messy thread as well. :)

It's lovely to know I'm not being judged! That in itself gives me a bit of a relief.

@Berkshiresue - AWESOME work, heehee! *highfive*

So today I've managed to clean litter trays, put on a wash load, hang another load on clothes horse, tidy the table where the house phone sits, and put some clean clothes away.

It doesn't look like a massive improvement, but at the same time, the lounge is clearer and it's so much more relaxing than before. :)

There are some great tips on this thread.. I also struggle with keeping on top of the housework and find that while I can sometimes find the motivation to 'get stuff done' the fact that there is so much to do that it is impossible to get it all done then my motivation takes a hit and I am back where I started pretty quickly.

So I have devised a system which helps me. I call it 3 little jobs.. I write a list of 3 jobs I want to do tomorrow.. this list could actually have any number of jobs on it but I keep it to 3.

Then I cross them off the list as I do them, however small that job may be it is a job and I have done it and crossed it off the list. At the end of the day/ week/ month instead of looking at it and thinking I have done nothing, I can say I have completed 3/21 or 90 jobs!!!!

Don't make the jobs too big as in 1) Tidy bedroom but achievable as in 1) Put a wash on 2)do a bowl of washing up 3) hoover living room

    Good Luck ;)
  • So weird things are happening..!

Read a few posts on here and then decided to have a shower, pampered myself with all the goodies I got for Christmas, and feeling nice and destressed. Then randomnly, I put some stuff in the tumble dryer (clothes horse FULL!!), another load of washing AND did the little bit of washing up...

    What's going on?!

AND - I don't feel overly exhausted or like it was a massive chore. I feel like I've done something positive today. Thanks so much you lovely lovely lot xxx

Hi, thought i would reply although i usually lurk, i am like you and overwhelmed with stuff/too much to do. Under a lot of stress with a difficult daughter and can't always cope with the housework.
I have tried flylady website before and found it too much but have started this week doing the flylady on here which is helping as i just do what i feel able to.(i just read not post) I would recommend this as a place to start.
I got really down today after visiting a friends house. It was like a showroom, even with kids she didnt have a thing out of place. I dont want to go that far but i am frustrated how much i have to do.
Hopefully we can tackle this together x

Hi, just adding my support. I am another regular on the messy thread and I dip in and out of the Flylady thread too, because I know their principles work - even if it can all sound a bit scary.

I had a Eureka moment a couple of years ago when I stayed with my sister for a week. I realised that the reason my sister has a nice clean, tidy house is that she doesnt have a lot of unnecessary "stuff".

If you have tidy organised cupboards and drawers and you can put things away then tidying is easy. If you can tidy easily then you can clean easily because you dont have to move 50 things out of the way first.

So I decided that I would only keep what could be stored away in the storage space I have. After living in the same house for over 10 years and every available space being taken up it wasnt going to be quick or easy to sort it but I have made progress. Getting my OH on board was hard at first but as soon as he started to see results he realised that it made sense.

Its a bit of a snowball effect, once you start to see improvement it motivates you to keep going and even if you slip up now and again its easy to get the momentum going again. Good luck, it sounds like you have made a great start. x

    Hi,

I've just read most of the thread and it sounds as if you are doing really well. :T

One thing I do is when you pull things from the tumble dryer. Do whatever needs ironing that day. You find you end up with only needing to do a few things which takes 15 minutes at most for me. So I expect it would be the same for you. :)

Its much better than having a pile and never ever getting to the bottom of it.

I see you said that you would keep this thread going, so when you are feeling happier, I'm sure we can all offer help with the food side of the house.

So, so pleased you are feeling happier.

Really sorry to hear you're feeling down rippedoff, but just think, we WILL tackle this together and our homes will be tidy but lived in. I could never live in an immaculate home, I need my space to be cosy to feel relaxed. We can motivate each other. :)

Harp07- What a great idea, I love the three things list. It seems like I could make it really achievable. :T

Everyone over on the messy thread seems really friendly, so I'm going to try and keep on top of things on that thread. Would like to start flylady but seems a bit too much... would be worth a go though. :) Just have to remember to not feel disheartened if it doesn't work for me.

It was really nice today - my hubby came home from work and went "wow no washing up still! it looks awesome in here!" and that really made me smile. It was such a small thing for me to do, but he recognised it. :) He's also really on board with getting mucked in.

What was really nice is that I made homemade pizza for dinner tonight and there's something awesome about just being able to get what you need without worrying about washing stuff up or if this/that is clean. Makes me enjoy cooking a bit more. :D
