PIP Decision

Why should that be the case?
Is your disability costing you extra money that you are having to fund out of your other benefits?
PIP is not for a rent top up or normal day to day expenditure. It is paid to compensate in part for the EXTRA costs that a disability brings with it.
Because if I get the care element I then qualify for the one bedroom rate and not shared room rate.
My disability costs me extra yes for varying reasons. I am fully aware what PIP is for.0 -
Good. Some people treat their DLA/PIP as another source of income instead of using it to cover the extra costs of being disabled.
I use all of my DLA (HRM & MRC) on helping to pay for carers and private medical treatments.
Apart from that I don't know what else the DLA award is any good for.
I still have to pay out all of the same bills and expenses that I was paying out for before I claimed DLA in the mid 90's.0 -
mine is for Mental health disorder , ME/cfs , fibromyalgia and eplipesy i have became a lot worse over the months like i have said but they don't seem to care about the whole effect it has on you .0

Hi everyone!
I'm new here but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about this new PIP thing. My mother had a stoke almost two years ago, which left her with a host of problems, the worse being left side paralyse (he left leg is basically useless and her left arm moves but it's beyond her control.) She can only manage to walk a few steps before she thinks she is falling, and has carers four times a day for all her other needs. She's been claiming the higher rate of DLA but has now had to reapply for this PIP payment instead. We sent the forms back on the 27th of December so I know we'll be waiting a while for a reply. After having the strokes she has been left with severe depression and is a very obsessive worrier now, so this news has not gone down well. She's very very anxious about the decision as she is reliant on that money (she's barely breaking even as it is).
Even though I logically know she should qualify for the enhanced I can't help worrying now either. Does anyone know how the criteria works in practical terms? And is a medical standard procedure?
Thanks for any help!0 -
Georgina91 hi the medical assessment seems to be standard with PIP its isn't anything scary just asking about your day and if you can't do something they wont make you , so i don't think they would make your mother . if you feel your mam needs a home assessment get a letter from your doctor and send to the people dealing with the PIP so incase she has to have one she wont have to attend a centre0

Thats good news! OH still waiting despite my involving MP I sent a fab email to Cameron, IDS and MP before Christmas and as of the end of the week will have nothing and still have 3 week till payday.
So walking a 10 mile round trip working full time and caring duties for me lets hope its a good period and I don't end having an attack of hemiplegia.
Sick of it all.0 -
So Capita used the exact same phrase that we have heard twice in the last 7 weeks to the MP.
My poor OH had to try and struggle up to Physio appointment yesterday the bus broke down so he was late and they wouldnt see him. He had to struggle back.
I had to go to the Crisis Fund through our housing to get a food parcel and help with travel to work.
Last night OH spoke about splitting up and how we would all be better off if he was dead. I have had to come into work because I am terrified about losing my job and leave him at home.
I am scared about what I might find.
Cant cope.0 -
So sorry to hear that mellymoo. This situation with PIP is out of hand now. My claim went in in July, and am also in audit pile.
In terms of your OH I would recommend a visit to his GP, sounds like some extra help, even if for a short while would be good.
Have a quiet night tonight and make a quick plan to get through the next little while.0 -

We are the same timescales, what he was saying last night scared me. Any idea who I need to talk to to try and get his physio moved closer? I am at the stage where I cant think and today keep bursting into tears.
This is my reward for trying to pay my way.0 -
I am so sorry to hear that you are still waiting and are now in this awful situation. I have no experience of capita, I was atos. My time scales were identical - Applied in July - finally got a decision a week ago - after it had been escalated to managers for 2 weeks. Hang in there, you must be at the top of the pile. Try to contact your local mental health crisis asap for some support in the meantime, or you are going to end up seriously ill yourself. Pip is an evil process to put sick people through, answers are needed here. Dwp turn round the decisions in under a week, so the blame lays entirely with the assessment providers. Thinking of you both and sending hugs.0
