Yes it could but I would need the money upfront to install the system and unfortunately I don't. I'll save for it and then get it changed over :-)
Or go "cold turkey" with Virgin and afford it far sooner. You might even be able to get an acceptable Freeview picture with an indoor aerial and a decoder from the local supermarket...
  • I considered the cold turkey method but reckon I would see way too much of my teenagers if I did that so I will ride it out :D
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
    Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
    Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
    By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00
  • Could you reduce the number of channels or services that you have from VM or pay a subscription rather than per use--In the way that BT let you pay per all or £2 for PM & Sat + Sun or £7 for all your normal land line calls
  • Going to give them a call and see if I can haggle James. I might be lucky

If your cashflow is so tight that you can't afford £100 upfront for an aerial, then how have you been able to afford subscription TV until now at £45pm-that's £540 pa (or enough for about 5 aerial installs)? Weird economics...

  • I had a nice big post answering that comment but tbh I just cba. I only wanted some technical advice. I am a typical woman and have no bloody clue. Hey ho I hope it made your day trying to make me feel small

We are not all typical, thank goodness.

Are you sure your current TV is not already set up for Freeview?
If it is, you only need a normal aeriel.
If it is a flat screen set bought in the last 4-5 years, it is almost certainly capable of handling the Freeview signal.
See if you can borrow a portable aeriel from a friend or neighbour and see if you can get a signal.
  • David thanks for the advice. I'll get my son to check and see. I know one of the televisions definitely is.

Teddysmum lucky you if you know but my mind just isn't technical. I'm sure there are many talents I have that others would find difficult. Shouldn't have used the typical statement. Jeez

I was not 'trying to make you feel small'. I was pointing out your flawed economic logic with regard to the aerial install cost. Every two months (approx) that you continue to pay for VM, would pay for the aerial install.
I can't see what your gender has to do with that exactly? Nor was I or anyone else aware of your gender until post 17.
