How to beat a smell

My son's room has a strange smell. It's not bad as such, just different. I'm usually quite good at identifying smells but can't seem to figure this one out. It's not pee. It's not sweaty clothes. It's not damp. I can't really describe it either. I have 2 other sons so i'm used to 'boy smells' but don't know what this is. He has quite bad eczema so I don't use smelly stuff to wash his clothes and bedding. His room is vacuumed every day.
If you find out what the smell is i'd be curious to know lol
This is the situation I am in. He does not smoke. He does a lot of sport. Skating mainly. The room is cleaned and he wears deodorant and has good hygeine. This is why I cannot figure it out. He is not a slob. He can't smelly it but I can and its perplexing!0 -

I don't want to be indelicate here, but boys that age do things with themselves IYKWIM!
Maybe the output odour lingers even if the bedding is changed.
Just a thought!
Edit ....Mupette just pipped me!0 -
We had a similar problem with my brother when I was living at home, we just put it down to 'boy smell' in the end - mum did everything people here have suggested, cleared the room out, cleaned it, my brother showered daily and was quite clean generally but still the room smelled. In the end he moved in to the spare room, and the smell moved with him, even before he moved most of his stuff with him.
We've had my BIL living with us too recently, and his room started to smell funny within a couple of days too. Worth remembering that people have their own 'smell' as well - in the same way as everyone's house has a different smell, but you never notice your own as you are there all of the time. If he hasn't always lived with you then it could be that.
Of course there could be an actual source of the smell, but if you don't find anything then it might be something you just have to live with!0 -

Maybe have a sneaky sniff of his deodorants or any other sprays he uses too. I've smelt some yucky deodorants in my time, if it's a scent he likes it would explain why he couldn't smell a 'bad' smell. If he uses different sprays on rotation you may not smell it on him at all times.0

Like I say I have never had children. I like having him around too. Today he made me breakfast. He spent Christmas at his parents and said this morning I really missed it here Auntie!
The problems he had a home really took a toll on his behaviour and he totally came off the rails. Maybe I am more stricter than his Mum and Dad!0 -

He had a pair of trainers that stank but it was different smell so I got him some new ones and we dumped the stinky ones but he kicked up a right fuss over parting with the old smelly ones.0 -
Not sure if this has already been asked but can others smell it? He can't, you can. What about everyone else who lives in the house?"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Does he have any (smelly) visitors or could he be sneaking someone in without your knowing?0
