Can anyone please explain the fit for purpose part of the soga and then explain why I'm wrong. Bearing in mind you all had a vhs recorders and they all played every video until it died and we were forced down this route. And remember, if I've told you to leave me alone already (because u r not well) please do so.

Physician, heal yourself. It was fit for purpose at the time of purchase. And if you want to know about VHS, the original players could not replay tapes done in LP mode, or ones recorded at SVHS levels.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

if its a phone , you expect it to make calls whatever the age of it. so there is no difference here.

My Motorola 8500x stopped making & receiving calls back in 1994, although the handset itself is still in 100% working order.
Do I sue O2 for changing their network transmission protocols, or Motorola for not having the foresight to realise those protocols would change 3 years down the line?

    Right. Yet another know all.
Vhs L.p is a different format, the recorder has the facility to slow the speed down and double the recording/playback time. This is clearly stated on the box at the time of purchase. .

VHS LP is not a different format. You are correct, it is the same format slowed down. But if you bought an original VHS player which did not support LP, then it would not be capable of playing an LP recording. At the time of purchase of the original VHS player, LP was not an option.

I'm not a "know it all", but I was selling VHS players in the 1980s and remember the confusion that some people had when improvements were made and their systems were not capable of playing videos made with said improvements.

Want another example? Do you remember floppy disks? The original ones were 360kB. You could get a computer that could read and write to a 360kB disk. Then along came 720kB disks. Double sided. Some computers couldn't read them, others could. Next was DSDD. 1.4MB of storage, and you know what, the 4 year old machines with a SSSD drive couldn't use them. Same physical size, same concept but technology had advanced.

Or try putting unleaded petrol in an unmodified 1960s car.
Want me to list any other techological advances which have meant old kit doesn't work any more?

As for your personal attacks on me and others, well, either you're a troll or you'll just find that you'll get less help than you've received on this thread.

Infact, How qualified are any of you? Does anyone who commented work for Trading standards or are Solicitors in for the office of fair trade? Do you actually know the sale of goods act? Or have you ever taken someone to court and won?

But, a little bit of information for you.
I don't work in a solicitor's office, nor am I a permanent employee of the Trading Standards Institute. I have never taken anyone to court.
Officially I am on holiday this week, but my accountants are finalising our year end figures so I'm in my office every day.

In fact as there is no technical solution to this and the OP knew that right from the start I'd suggest one definition of idiot is somebody who posts on the

IMO there is a genuine complaint that a reasonably expensive consumer item fails to perform its primary function after three years because of the deliberate act of Disney and in Samsung selling an item they were fully aware may require continuing support and failing to provide it.

Saw in another thread that the some of the exchanges are referred to as ming mong ping pong, made me smile.

I recall, some years ago, when "The Matrix" was released on DVD. It was using DVD technology that showed up problems in lots of players.

Can't remember if the manufacturers provided firmware updates to resolve this. Does anyone else remember this?

Unfortunately the MSE moderators felt that posting a link to their consumer rights board was somehow abusive. IMO that is still the best place to find help with this issue. Certainly returning the disk as it won't play is a good starting point but I'm guessing Samsung have no legal obligation to sort this out.
