yeah I saw that, fairly abusive personality - nothing worse than having a go at someone trying to help and belittling their knowledgePerhaps the OP should direct their anger towards those fellow humans to constantly pirate and upload copyrighted films etc and are the very cause of endless upgrades to security being required that has resulted in the OP's annoyance.0 -
yes , the latest firmware. but its 18 month old0

if its a phone , you expect it to make calls whatever the age of it. so there is no difference here. there are to many people who add grey areas to things when its clearly black and white. blockbusters are bankrupt, so I cant take it back. trading standards say its then down to the credit card company. the credit card company wont do charge back for anything over 200 days old. so how does a 6 year responsibility have any bearing in the real world when everyone can legally tell you to go to hell? the player is my elderly parents, they cant afford to throw their money away every year on new things and trying to get them familiar with new tech is a nightmare. so why are these companies not liable for their actions? if its a bluray player it should be capable of playing bluray discs regardless. it is Samsungs responsibility for the life of the product, isn't it? or are Samsung saying after 12 months their products are good for nothing. so who then would buy a £1000 tv only to replace it next year when it wont show a picture? Samsung you products by your own admission only last 12 months. pathetic and poor!0

To me this is simple. It was sold as a blueray disk player. Now it won't play a current blueray disk so it isn't fit for purpose.
The problem is neither the manufacturer nor the retailer is legally responsible any more so the OP is basically stuffed.
Morally the OP has every right to expect that it should work but because of the movie industry the media encryption (I'm guessing) has been changed in a doubtless fruitless attempt to combat piracy.
So you follow all the rules and get shafted. If the OP had bought an HD media player instead and downloaded hookey HD material his kit would still be working just fine.0 -
If the OP wants lifetime support then in effect they are sort of wanting aviation grade support.
Aero-manufacturer's are indeed required to support their products for decades.
The result:
1. It's very expensive for everyone - which is paid for by way of astronomical maintenance costs and parts prices.
2. Zero innovation as it's too expensive to develop new models as you have to factor in both the aviation grade approval and the never ending support commitment for yet another model line.
I would argue that the successes and innovations in consumer electronics of all types is precisely because companies are not required to support their products, but are free to move on to the next design while not having to bother too much about legacy compatibility.
Mind you I would also say that companies are forced into this by a substantial portion of their retail customers who always want to have the 'latest thing' and that they will loose market share it they don't go down this route.
Those customers who would prefer that something is properly engineered in the first place are a minority.0 -

To be honest, I just want the thing I paid for to do the job it was built to do. So why is that too much to ask?0 -
Does it still play Blu-ray Discs which were produced 18+ months ago? If so, the. It still does he job it was designed and built to do, so you don't have a case under SOGA, or anything else.
Technology moves on and some companies are quicker at dropping support of old models compared to others, but also sometimes older models are not capable, technically, of running the required updates.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

It appears from the OPs only other thread that they have a problem with people who don't give the answer wanted and is totally contemptuous of anybody they think is not of the same intellect or ability as them with phrases such as 'its amazing how these mechanics are the people who were in the bottom classes at school. lets face it, its not rocket science'This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Dunsh, I realise you have a strong belief that you are right, but comparing complex electronics with fuel is a tad far fetched. Compare electronics with electronics.
Your player was released in 2009. That's the year before Apple released the first iPad. The first generation ipad will not run the latest operating system and it doesn't run some if the latest applications. Dies that mean it some how fails under the sale of goods act? No!
