  • good on you. two questions, how did you go about securing your sabbatical and how do i subscribe!

    Thanks
  • Hello Eproctophilia - according to the rule book anyone who works in the public sector can apply I think but don't quote me on that. So because part of my "away" time encompasses work of a religious nature (volunteering) I am allowed to take the full whack of 5-years although anyone who just wants time off for "self fulfillment" of a simple travelling nature only gets 1 year. Yes a person can lie but I have literally filled in my "volunteer submission form" with my church to effectively be sent anywhere should they see fit.. eeek!

Now then - do you want to subscribe to the sabbatical idea or this thread..?

  • Hello Lilt you gorgeous little mini-Hobbit of loveliness..... I am 5'8" so I might be able to beat that target but see above... I think it's farther away than originally thought... However I am a a follower of the "make good use of your time" mindset. Coming home from a hard days work then traipsing to the gym is not a good use of time even if it's good for your health....

SO I have always (until I moved jobs and house ) cycled to work in order to kill to bird with one stone - getting to work and exercising! Now I am stuck but low and behold I now have the oppurtunity to get fit and save time...

AND I have the oppurtunity to cycle to the train station if I want - thankfully I bought a very heavy lock when I got the bike although it is worth £600 and I would cry if it went missine so I "might" get a cheapo £50 number from eBay or something.... :T

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi NSK,
I'm a big fan of walking, I walk my DD to school every day 1.5 mile round trip (towards the end of the week I use the car for drop offs as she gets so tired) and just brisk walking alone made me drop a jeans size. Like you I can't see the point in paying for something that I won't be using or not making good use of my time, that stomp home from work, walking out the frustrations of the day is a great stress reliever, I do my best thinking when walking.
You've been a huge inspiration and support while on your DFW journey and I wish you all the best for this next chapter in your life ;)

  • Hello Lilt you gorgeous little mini-Hobbit of loveliness.....

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Thanks, I think! I thought I saw somewhere you said you were 5'8. I may have lied a little bit previously. I am shrinking and in fact 5'4.9 when stretched... Still, it is much bigger than my mother in law at a statuesque 4'11!!

I LOVE the scooter. An absolute MUST-HAVE!!! :rotfl::rotfl::T

  • MrsGSR you are right... I need to drop maybe two sizes (:rotfl:) and I will be very happy. It's been a mighty pleasure having you contribute to my witterings and challenges though so you are very welcome but a thank you to you as well! Yes after a day where I am I think a good old stomp home might be good. Just need to wait until I see it before rushing to buy my new eucksack and trainers ( SO EXCITING ) however I need to get the zip on my Berghaus coat fixed cause I like all the pockets and the massive hood... :rotfl:..I am planning for snow as it was in Feb last year!

Lilt my Mum is just over 5'... she's super little. My Dad is 6'4" though...:rotfl:

These are the trainers by the way....they look massive but are so so light.. just need to go try them on and make sure I really like them. The guy in the store showed them to me so I feel uneasy if I haven't researched it for months, checked other websites, tried them on four times at least with one time being just after I have been fed and am happy... etc etc....and make sure they are suitable for my travelling ideas and I am not just getting excited for no reason.

  • Well a very good day to you all....

So one weight off my mind. The bike as picked up on Friday for a mere £265. This may seem like a lot but I was looking at £315 if I needed a new alarm WITHOUT the new chain and sprocket... so all in all this is easily covered by the returning deposit from my current landlady... So my credit card is now standing at £364.52 which includes the fee for my new passport - this I can deal with!

Now then.... I have taken the house that I saw today! :T:T:T

The more I talked to Dave (name changed) my new landlord the more I realise we knew people through my church. His cleaner a few years back was an indian lady at my church. This little lady (she was tiny) taught me and my friend to cook amazing food at her house with random lessons now and then and used to have Dave for dinner as well but I never met him.

This little lady was trying to set my friend up with Dave and I remember some comments made about him being a little "too old" ..:rotfl: and he looked a bit sheepish when I said I remember his name being mentioned......teehee!

However we work for the same organisation as me. I trust him more than a random found on SpareRoom. He was very open that since he works with boys all day every day he is happy to be told off should he say anything innapropriate. He has offered to combine shopping days in his car so I don't have to lug shopping on the bus and such forth... a little conservatory as well and a very quiet secluded garden for Moggy!

So - that train station! I did the route on my bike and it is FAR!!! I think I took a wrong turn somewhere and obviously through town I can walk places the bike won't go but it still seems very very far to walk in the morning. :(:(:(

Another frend from church ( seriously you people need to join a church for commaraderie if anything..:rotfl:).. has offered me a push bike that has been behind her house for a few years and needs some TLC but won't be missed if it's stolen from outside the station where bikes are on show to every man and his dog that pass by... although I have a rather epic lock...

So... so far so good. I have earned a whopping £48 on eBay today with another £23 coming in bids ending within the next few hours which means my rucksack has pretty much been paid for...:rotfl: but I need the zip on my Berghaus jacket to protect me from the rain and wind.. and sharpish as I am gonna have an early shift the day after I move...:(:(

RIght.. I need to go find more things to chuck out.... :)
