It is of course possible that he just misspoke under the pressure of a (live?) interview. Who here is always 100% right when quoting numbers?

Can I put in a word for the bank of mum and dad ?

For some time there has been a cleansing operation.

Certainly the bankers cleaned the rest of us out! :rotfl:

Cant see what the big deal is. He represents a borough of wealthy people, many of whom will be earning far in excess of 50k. Whether people like it or not, 50k is a pretty basic salary for the city.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I am old enough to remember the days when the LCC, not a noted right wing organisation, freed up accommodation by shipping out pensioners to a nice little bungalow by the sea.
Many thought they had won the pools - just make sure you are not a local in say Weston Super Mare hoping to retire to a nice little bungalow by the sea.

Not only has the government done this, but it is also thinking about doing this, instead of selling one and nationalising the one that it has the larger shareholding in.

Politics and banks don't mix. Nor should they......

    Sounds like a miracle cure.

No such thing. In some form or another it will impact. Papering over the cracks merely creates a window of opportunity to tackle the real issues.

It always helps when there is no more money that you can simply print some more. The only thing that stopped bankruptcy was QE i.e. a bailout from the BoE.

ie printing money like in the 17 century - "I promise to pay in the future from the earnings of my grand-children". [And if that fails you can make a lampshade with this document].

At least we do get to earn our own money from about the end of May to Xmas so it is not yet total slavery.

I think you are confusing QE with bonds, there is no promise to pay back QE.

I'm not sure 3x average earnings has ever been enough in London in the South East.

But London, the south east & the home counties cannot be an enclave for the highly paid.
We need people to do the cleaning & caring jobs, the admin & shop work, the hospitality & delivery jobs (& a host of other average & below average pay jobs), it takes all kinds to run a city/county.

People in those groups have never been able to buy in the South East. The problem is the lack of social housing.
