  • I'm 6 weeks today and feel rotten! So tired, getting lots of cramps, have hot flashes and think I might just throw up/pass out/cry. Stressing a bit at work as I'm sure someone is going to guess and I work somewhere where there are some risks so once I tell management the whole world will know as they do risk assessments.

I've got a telephone appt with the midwife tomorrow. I know I'll have a scan at 11-13 weeks, does anyone know what else happens in terms of appointments? Am I likely to have anything before that? Do they take bloods etc before? My GPs practice don't see you at all if you have a no concerns so not had the process explained/opportunities to ask questions.
  • Oops just re-read my post and I sound awful! Oops. It's not all bad, just when it's bad it's horrid! OH is being wonderful though.
  • Penguin, I had my booking in app around 8 weeks I think, with the midwife, didn't have to see the doctor just booked straight to the midwife by reception at the gps, she took 4 blood samples to send off and said she would ring if there was any problems, haven't had a call so assuming everything was OK.

Had scan at 12 weeks then don't have to see midwife again till 16 weeks.

I felt rotton on and off from about week 7 through to 11 and the past couple of weeks I have felt fine just really really tired.

As with work I do what you could call a mans job, lots of lifting and generally being quite active and I found it wasn't really an issue just take more care than usual.

Aww Penguin I hope you feel better soon. I'm 5+2 and bar the hot flushes, and lightheadness/dizziness I've not been too bad. I'm really hoping that is the extent of it for me, that and my loss of appetite for certain foods.

I've been looking at what to expect at my first midwife appointment, so thanks Pink, its good to know what to expect.
  • Thanks ladies. I spoke to the midwife this morning. Am booked in for a couple of weeks time and she said it would take about an hour, do my bloods etc

Not sure if I'm giving off vibes, but I got asked for the second time this week at if I'm pregnant. Is it that blooming obvious? Today the person who asked me is also pregnant and she said I just had a 'look' when I asked her how she's getting on (I'd not seen her for a few weeks). I've just said no and laughed but it's a bit weird.

Made the mistake of having a curry last night (OH made it) - regretted it this morning! Not been sick, but felt awful. Now I see why they say to avoid spicy food. Weirdly I've not gone off much. Also hugely craving grease like a cheese and bacon toastie or something. Mmmm...

Hello, how are you all doing? I hope you are feeling better Penguin.

Penguin, when I told my manager, she said that she had already guessed. I was only 5 weeks at the time and had no symptoms at all! Thankfully, only 1 other person has guessed so far and I'm 10 weeks now. I feel like it's glaringly obvious I'm pregnant - I look bloated, pale, sickly and I'm really paranoid that everyone can tell, but clearly they can't! My 2 year old asked to speak to the baby in my tummy today, I haven't told him but I guess he's heard conversations between me and his dad. I'll have to be careful or he'll be giving the game away!

My nausea is so much better, still bad when I wake up and late at night but I haven't been sick in days. :D
  • Glad to hear you're doing better Faerie. Sounds like you don't have long before you don't have to worry about your little boy telling everyone! When's your scan?

I'm feeling much better this evening, and haven't had cramp since about 1pm. Eating seems to help even though I seem to eat very slowly during the day. But by teatime I'm starving!

I totally zoned out in a meeting today and feel like I'm constantly puting my cardigan on and off as my temperature does crazy things. I was on annual leave last week so currently going with the 'first week back is exhausting' thing. Plus I work across 2 buildings so have just hid in the toilets for a while when I'm changing buildings and no one seems to have noticed. Also been leaving at exactly 5pm which is also pretty unlike me, but my brain is mush- but again going with the 'post holiday good intentions'. I normally go straight to a running club 2 days a week and again a couple of people have asked me 'are you running tonight?' but I'm just making excuses as really don't feel up to it. My manager joked a few months ago that she would know I was pregnant if I stop running! I'm hoping to make it past my midwife appointment before I tell my manager, but not sure I'll make it to scan. We'll see. We're babysitting OH's 2 year old nephew at the weekend and I know we'll be bursting to tell OH's brother and SIL as we are very close to them, but we're not going to as they had a lot of m/cs (but are midway through a healthy pregnancy at the mo) so we want to wait until after the scan. And if I tell my mum she will tell the whole world!

Eating little and often helps me too, maybe that's why I feel rubbish in the mornings, I've probably gone too long without food. When is your midwife appt? Keep an eye on your temperature, it goes up naturally during pregnancy but that was the first sign of my kidney infection. I just put it all down to pregnancy symptoms and had ignored it until I was quite ill. Do you think you'll carry on running when you feel better? I did the C25K a few months ago and had just got into running (read.. slow jogging/walking) but stopped when I felt rubbish. I'm not sure whether being a new runner I should pick it up again now I feel ok or wait until afterward the baby is born. I miss it!

My scan is on 12th Oct, when I should be exactly 12 weeks. I found out really early so it seems to be dragging! Last time we told our mums as soon as we found out but are waiting this time. It's hard to keep quiet, I want to tell them every time I see them!

Hey ladies just delurking to say I was a decent level runner before pregnancy (regular 10ks) and I've kept it up since but just doing c.5k, very slowly and steadily, and avoiding the heat most importantly.

Exercise (or rather lack of) was how all my friends guessed - I did something 5 days a week pre pregnancy and had to cut down massively as most of it was pretty intense.

Running is starting to get harder now though (16+4) and a little uncomfortable, so may tone down even more and focus on pregnancy yoga, walking and swimming.

  • I only get hot for a few minutes, and it's normally same time as cramp so I think it's OK, but will keep an eye on it.

Midwife is booked for 17th October so I'll be nearly 9 weeks.

I do want to carry on running. I'd stopped a few weeks ago as I'd had a chesty cough and my asthma was bad, and then felt really tired. I thought about going for a run tonight, but OH is away and I think he'd worry about me going and no one being home. But maybe I'll do a couple of miles at the weekend. I've done quite a bit of walking and that has been good. I have a 10k booked in December so want to do that! But obviously I won't do it if it seems stupid.

Thankfully my mum is holiday so we've not spoken much. But next time I see her will be at my friend's baby shower, awkward!
