No buying unnecessary toiletries in January 2014
Comments
-
Could a complete newbie join in?
I always get toiletries off my auntie & brother-in-law at Christmas, perfume off the in-laws & Husband so I am determined to use them all up this year before buying more.
I also have a soap & glory habit, can't see me needing to buy any scrubs, moisturisers, or creams until the apocalypse!
I'm going to pledge a £3 spend for Jan on things both the husband & I use (mouthwash/toothpaste), & deodorants as I don't think we want to end the month stinking!
Will count my stash when I don't have a sleeping baby on me!Personal challenges 2014
Silverstone/swagbucks challenge = 3,692/16,347
Nectar/Adpoints - 415 = £2.07
Declutter - 35/1825
Toiletries Jan - 0/£3 Groceries chall. - £103.36/£200
£2014 in 2014 - £46.98/£20140 -
VALM - you have some lovely bits for 2014. PCMC can be so expensive, the QVC deal looks great - will have to tell my aunty about it as she often just buys it straight from the counter and not as part of any set.
& Finally, I have decided to take on a one year challenge for 2014:
I will not buy any toiletries in 2014 as I probably have enough to last me for about a year
If I run out of a specific type of product (eg. shower gel), I will report here and obviously will purchase what is needed - one product at a time, no more
There are certain products I can predict I will need to replace eg. Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - I will report here before repurchasing and may trial a time without it first and UU some other bits if possible
Instead of INs I will discuss any difficulties I am having with this challenge!
I will avoid the beauty aisles as they can be so tempting
I am also going through make up over the next few weeks and getting rid of stuff that I no longer want to use - I will buy make up if I need it eg. foundation - I don't really hoard this so it is out of the challenge
I will post an updated stash list in the new year as my baseline. At the end of the year I will repost it along side my end of year stash list.
I will be so happy if I can see this through and use up my stash! Previously, I have tried to do this in an open ended way - doing it for a year seems much more manageable. Now, someone tell me to break a leg!
Also, anyone is welcome to join me Xxx
Thanks Parisian. Tell your aunty that there are quite a few places that she could shop for PCMC at a lower price than retail. The Christmas TSV is probably the best value though. A few years ago they gave away the 15ml tubes with Instyle mag and I managed to hoard a great stock of them at that time. Keep wishing for this to happen again.
Well done with your pledge. Good luck. As you say, keep posting on here.Parisian that is some gauntlet that you have thrown down! Gosh, I am not sure if I am strong enough LOL, but like you I probably have enough "stocks" to do it all year excepting toothpaste, shampoo, deo and toner.
I am going to be chicken and only pledge for January at present.
I am excluding make up and nail polish though.
For the challenge this year I am going to pledge to follow the Project Pan as it's intended in that I'm not going to buy anything until those named items are used up. I'm going to try and put money in a jar for each UU and am hoping to stay the course of not buying anything until I have the money saved in my jar for the item I want.noelphobic wrote: »Can I come back into the fold please? I was a regular for a while but haven't posted for ages. I've been good(ish) this year. Had a massive lapse last January at the Boots 75% off sale and still have most of it! Other than that I've not done too badly and will be buying very little, if anything, at the next Boots sale (honest!)
I should be able to get through the whole year without buying shower gel/bubble bath/body lotion/scrub. I will need to buy shampoo/conditioner/deodorant and possibly some facial products but am trying to keep them to a minimum. I should be able to get through the whole year without buying make up - have shed loads of it and hardly ever wear any!
I will try to do an inventory and post it at some point.
Welcome back. xBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I have a terrible weakness for the palettes they sell. I have heard that the Euro duty frees have a Givenchy set.....
OK, off to the naughty step. Because I know I will falter somewhere between here and Malaga on the 29th!
ooh lucky you having a trip booked already. Are you staying in Malaga or travelling from there?

Challenge for January 25 OUTs and no more INs that I don't need - I'm having a make-up bring and buy sale with some people from another forum later this month so hopefully that'll help reduce the stash a bit!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
kiplingmonkey wrote: »Hello & Happy New Year to everyone. I would like to rejoin the thread if I may please. Life got really busy and I just didn't have time to post/keep up with all the lovely UUs everyone was reporting on the thread last year.
I am hoping 2014 may be a little calmer so I will hopefully have time to post/keep up. Plus, I still have some serious inroads to make in my stash.
Like VALM my serious downfall was the Q - this year I am going to continue adding to my Sealed Pot Challenge every time I resist buying something. I know from past experience that I can't go completely cold turkey but I managed to end last year on a minus and I hope to do the same this year.
I have got the New Year off to a reasonable start with 2 UUS already:
Lulu time edp - 2ml sample size. WNBA - nothing special. Still searching for my holy grail perfume and still haven't forgiven Clinique for discontinuing Simply....
Clarins mascara wonder longueur (mini trial size) - I really liked this & WBA when all my other mascaras have finished. I will be starting a Prescriptives one tomorrow (gives you some idea how long that has been in the stash as Prescriptives was discontinued many years ago!).:o
Good to see you back kiplingmonkey. I am a reformed character these days re: the Q. I can't even remember what channel number it is!! I don't even work in an area with nice shops anymore either and the branch of Boots is tiny.
Unfortunately my stash has grown a little more since I posted my list. Emma decided to list all the items she owns and was going to throw items away that were unused!!! Just couldn't let this happen so I have adopted the following:-
Pink Vaseline lip balm
30 ml Molten Brown Ylang Ylang body wash
30ml Molton Brown Ylang Ylang body lotion
30ml TBS Cranberry Joy hand cream
I also went to the Trafford Centre yesterday with the intention of us having a meal there. We collected Emma from work at 4.00pm, headed straight there and then found that the shops were shutting at 5.00pm and the restaurants at 6.00pm. The other intention was for Emma to buy some foundation (she had actually run out) and I had said that I would contribute half towards a NARS one if she wanted. Unfrortunately the two SAs at the NARS counter in Selfridges were booked up doing make overs and we ended up coming away with a few samples.
We then headed to Boots to get a replacement L'oreal foundation for Emma and I found some bottles of Philosophy Peppermint Stick at half price. Would have been rude not to get one. Wish they had had the Fluffy Cupcake one available as well.
That is me done in the sales now. No more.
Have repainted my nails ready for work tomorrow and am wearing OPI Kangarooby - I think this is a discontinued shade now.
All that's left for me to say for now then is Happy New Year to you all. xxBack for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Thank you dolly84!
Welcome back to all returnees - lovely to see old friends again - and hello and welcome to all newbies and lurkers!
I got given quite a bit of 'stuff' for Christmas, so zero purchases for January, as I have enough of everything. And I mean everything.
I was given some Next toiletries in 'Enchanted' fragrance, I think this was a re-gift, not that I'm ungrateful. There is no info on the fragrance on the Next website or on the bay of E, even. Everything seems OK though, fragrance is pleasant enough.
Am@zon sent me a facial hair removal product to trial, (ok I asked them to send it, but it was still a NBI), I will put up a link to the review when it's done. Amazon get a bit sniffy if you review stuff elsewhere, and I can see their point.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Forgot to say ValM, I loved Emma's blog, she writes so well, but you didn't need me to tell you that!
I hope she continues to develop that gift.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
