I currently often connect my laptop up to my TV to watch programs when the weather is interfering with the freeview signal. I may get SkyGo in the future or Love Film (free trial at the mo). It (laptop) only has a VGA port so obviously limited in quality. TV has HDMI port.
Does anyone know of any reasonable devices which I can use to get all of these. It seems that the tablets which can connect to the tv eg HUDL or Kindle Fire either don't work with Love Film or don't work with one of the catch up services such as 4OD. I also gather it is difficult to get some of these to work on Windows 8 which seems to be the platform on most new laptops. I went into Currys yesterday and the sales assistant was of the opinion that Love Film wouldn't work on Chrome Books. I'm trying to check out with Sky whether Sky Go can work on Chrome books.
I want the cheapest option that will work with all/ maximum options. I'm not too worried if can't get Sky Go.
Thoughts please.

Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

You could get a USB to HDMI convertor to improve the picture quality

To get Sky Go you need a Sky account.
I have a Ruko box which runs through the internet. It has Netflix but not Love Films.

Have you looked at ditching the Laptop in favour of a SmartTV add-on box?
NowTV is the cheapest at £10, but doesn't have Lovefilm. You'd need to go up to a Roku or similar c. £50 to get maximum flexibility.0 -
I have sky broadband so could get the sky go cost £15pm . I've looked at the now boxes but they seem very limited no itvplayer for example or live TV. Might just use existing laptop for TV and get second one for internet use. Or even mix and match a couple of devices. Will have to give netflicks a trial and see how it compares with lovefilm might open up more options.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. ITVPlayer isn't available on most devices as they have decided to focus on the more premium aspects of the service via their website.
I use my Xbox for all my needs with the exception of not been able to watch ITV. I have BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, NowTV & Netflix0 -

I fail to see how it is any worse picture than watching BBC Iplayer
I suggest only replying again about this subject after you've either subscribed to SkyGo or done some proper research about it.
BBC iPlayer is available in broadcast quality HD on a computer (and Smart TV) SkyGo definitely isn't.I fail to see0 -

If you subscribe to SkyGo and try to watch it on a television, "failing to see" is exactly what you will do!:D
We're using our Sky sub on a 32" TV via the Xbox App and the quality is ok for what is being watched. Mostly used by the kids to watch Disney etc. but the quality is watchable (on a par with analogue). If it was a bigger screen it may deteriorate but for "free", I think it's useable0
