What! Not Arrived, You Are a Joke

I sold a BIN item at 9.00 pm on 23 Dec and posted it by 2nd class post (as per listing) the following morning - we had no electric at home that morning so I had to travel several more miles to post the parcel.

I've today received a message from the buyer to say he's not received the parcel. I should think not! It's been Christmas don't you know.

I know what I want to put in the reply; any idea what I should put.

As the buyer lived within 30 or so miles of me and my partner works mid way between the two, on the evening of the sale, I did contact the buyer to see if he wanted to pick up (in case he was passing that way) - he thanked me and said no as he would not be passing that way. In our communication he did not mention he needed the item urgently otherwise I could have/would have offered an alternative method of postage (sd) and charged him for that.

Is he being unreasonable!

Just be polite but factual I.e Christmas and call that stuff

I am however intrigued as to why no electricity at home meant you had to travel several more miles, and how that may affect the posting?

I had no electricity; sorry the whole vicinity had none so my local Post Office was shut as was everything else within a 4 mile radius of where I live. I was going to give up and post after Christmas but chose to drive further afield to another PO.
    I wish I hadn't bothered!

Yes, he's definitely being unreasonable. If it were me, I would message the buyer the proof/certificate of postage across, highlighting that it shows both their postcode and the date it was sent. If they are genuine, this should reassure them.

If it doesn't, they are probably trying their luck and hoping to get the item for free! ;)

eBay estimates would show that as being late now and I think that is why people are reporting 'losses' much earlier than we would normally expect.

eBay would have shown that arriving on or by the 27th , but I will refrain from my usual rant about the stupid delivery estimates.

    Thank you.

Porto bello - I've found the proof of posting and sent that in a message just stating it must be due to the Christmas break.

Soolin - thank you, as it was 2nd the estimated delivery date showing on eBay is 30 Dec-31 Dec so you are probably right about why he is chasing this up.

It could be a chancer/scammer seeing it hadn't been sent by recorded means so know they would win in dispute.

Of course it could be in the queue but I would imagine if it's 30 miles away you will probably share the same sorting office.

His feedback is nearly 300 - at least if he's a scammer I have a proof of posting which I can claim on if he states INR

To be fair, there have been 5 postal days since it was posted, so most 2nd class would arrive by now. ..
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • I'd send a polite reply stating when it was posted and reassuring them that seasonal delays are not unusual (especially if your area has been affected by severe weather) so it's probably delayed rather than lost, and ask them to get back in touch if it still doesn't arrive within the next few days. Be prepared to refund if necessary: although Royal Mail doesn't consider items to be lost until 15 working days have elapsed, eBay buyers generally don't expect to wait that long.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Aren't *all* ebay buyers now unreasonable?

Ebay has brainwashed its users into expecting free next day delivery or your money back.
