Quorn.....is it me?

I used to eat Quorn regularly a few years back, as did DH: we were doing Sl*mming W*rld before his heart op). I used to get some stomach cramp, but put that down to the huge quantities of veg I was eating
I bought some the other day for the freezer, so now I'm looking at it carefully ..... btw, I thought it was made of wallpaper paste :rotfl:
Lol. When I was in the army we used to get tins of sausages for our breakfast meal on the tank. I didn't even know until after I was discharged that these were actually made of soya! The funny thing is, I've yet to find a soya meal in Civvy Street which tastes as good as those sausages. Then again, I managed to get some tins of the sausages a few years after I'd left and they didn't taste as good as I remembered.
I guess it's a question of how hungry you are.0 -
Be ultra careful about Quorn and the 'low fat' claims made by its producers.
Only the 'pure' product lives up to these.
As soon as you start buying any of the substitute stuff where Quorn forms only half of the product or even less, e.g. 'meat style slices' or pretend ham, you find you're absolutely swimming in fat... although they continue to give out with the 'low fat' message, quite cynically.
Check the nutritional info of these two items:
http://www.quorn.co.uk/food/deli/ham-style-slices/
as compared with an average Tesco ham product
http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=268231667
In other words, a lot more fat and actually marginally more saturates.
In my humble opinion, the firm should be prosecuted for continually
and deliberately giving out misleading messages about their muck being a 'healthy option'.

I like qu0rn but a friend of mine is violently sick if she eats so much as a morsel of it.
I've since learned that lots of people are allergic.0 -
My husband is always violently sick after Quorn, but can normally eat anything, however dodgy and is the only one never sick when the rest of us get holiday belly. He is not allergic to anything else.
Which means Quorn is banned chez nous.January GC 299/300

May GC 372/250 still looking for the plot

The quorn ham is 2.2g of fat per 100g how is that not low fat??? any Dietician will tell you to check the amount of fat per 100g on the packets when following a healthy diet/lowfat diet plan/lifestyle. A good serving 75g of Quorn Mince is 1.5g of fat followed with a HM Tomato Sauce and a healthy amount of pasta and you can have a low fat nutritious meal for under 7g of fat probably less for me as i don't eat a lot of pasta. So i have no idea where you are getting this 'swimming in fat' fromIrregular choice addict:j

Erm, probably because 'low fat' quorn slice has twice the fat as ham, more calories, more carbs, more saturates, and less protein. Why would anyone (unless they're veggie) bother to eat quorn when ham is less unhealthy?

I used to eat it quite regularly years ago. Then went off it for a while. Bought some again earlier this year and had horrible stomach ache the night I had it for dinner. Don't know what's changed but it doesn't seem to agree with me anymore.0

As a vegetarian family Quorn often plays a part in our meals and so far, thankfully, no issues. However i do often buy other brands just because they are often cheaper, especially cooking for 5 and normally bulk out a meal with pulses and veg. But i have found the whole debate and research very interesting so i will be looking at it in more detail.Success means having to worry about every thing in the world......EXCEPT MONEY. Johnny Cash
