Laptop can't see. Lynksysrouter

IPad is fine as u can see, and the laptop was ok a few weeks ago but suddenly I'm getting the message - the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirement of the network -

The laptop can 'see' the wifi. And strength is excellent. I can connect to an unsecured BT fon network near by, but not my own. I've clicked in and out of different settings, re entered key codes etc etc to no avail. What to do? Any ideas? With thanks.

Hiya, what OS are you using? Have you changed the security on the laptop at some point? I had this changing between WEP / WPA. You will need to forget the connection and then connect again - let me know your OS and I will see if I can let you know how to do it

haha, had to be the only OS I didnt have handy. Try this

    1) open control panel, click network and internet and then Network and Sharing Centre
    2) Under Tasks there should be an option for Manage Wireless Networks (click it)
    3) select the one you usually use to connect and remove it (there is a remove option above the list of networks)
    4) Close all the screens until you are back to your desktop
    5) Click on the Wireless icon in the notification area on your taskbar (bottom right of screen) and select the connection you normally use. At this point you will have to re-enter your wireless key / password

    all should now be well.

I have had to do this without trying so hopefully I havent missed anything off - let me know how you get on

MyWire. Which is what it used to be before the iPad was connected

check on the ipad to see which SSID (i.e. network name) it's connected to - THAT's the one you need to remove from the lappy....and probably the Lynskeys one too ;)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Ah! Ok have reconnected - but didn't have to go thro password set up !! Says it was unsecured . I'll make way back thro to see where I can put in password. A thought. Maybe this wasn't my Linskys but iPad is on it and password protected. Oh dear.

Ok went into manage again into security changed to WPA2 personal (from open) encryption says AES, and popped in security key - and it disconnected. So , what does that mean. Is the security key which is in a file on my lap top the one for this router ? Perhaps might be easier to get a new one and start all over again.

Hi and happy new year. Would be grateful for further help. I have re connected to the Linskys but is unsecured. How do I make it secure? When I logged on it was saying MyWire(Linskys) so I thought if I go thro the procedure again and remove MyWire as well I can reset with the security key (which I noted yesterday was for the MyWire connection). However I have now lost MyWire completely . So back to what I have and how to make it a secure connection. Thanks again for help.

sounds like you'd be better off starting from scratch by changing the SSID and password for your wifi... does the label on the router have the IP address and login details on it (for the router itself, NOT the wifi key), alternatively what model of lynksys router is it for further advice?
