  • Whoop whoop. Just got the first bid on my ebay item with 7 days to go. That's a minimum of twenty pounds towards the overpayment. Fingers crossed there will be a bidding war as I have 6 watchers.

  • And another bid made on ebay plus two additional watchers. Also went to take advantage of 2 dine in at m&s yesterday and got lots of reduced things that have already evaporated. Love saving money esp when it feeds us rather than the freezer!

Was so annoyed yesterday. We had planned a 2 for Tuesday dominos day yesterday and OH was ordering on line. I pointed out that he hadn't checked for cashback and was greeted with a oh, is this how it's going to be while you're doing your money saving thing. Doesn't he realise that this is a joint mortgage? Grrrr.

Unfortunately a lot of the time one of the partnership is not as on-board as the other.

Maybe you'll just have to try and get OH on your journey slowly, without him realising, then next year when he's automatically reaching for vouchers and checking cashback then you can have a smirk to yourself.

I explained to my OH that we'll save £20k on interest if we overpay, and while he was interested at the time, he really isn't that bothered now.. so I keep pottering along without him.

    good luck xx

  • Thanks for the encouragement shala_moo. Another good ms day today. Went to mr s for the groceries. In addition to coming up with reduced items, my total bill was 62.54 and I had £12 off a £60 spend. Also got a few vouchers I will use. Going on the basis that I indulge more at mr s, I counting this as a £6 saving to go towards the mortgage. Also, tcb is offering 15p back on one item I got reduced to 49p. Yay. Have just checked ebay and my item is now at £23 with 10 watchers. Gingers crossed

  • Meant to mention, got quarterly gas bill thru. A ridiculous £370 for a house that is unheated most day times. It is very old and draughty though. We put aside £100 per month for this so we're ok but had hoped for some spare.

  • totally - i'm spending so much time on here that i may not to include "restrict MSE time" as one of my aims! just totted up and I'm currently at 6.3% of my quarterly mortgage overpayment. am guaranteed at least another £23 from ebay and still have the end of month transfers to start. sad as this maybe, i admit to being excited by it all. specially since I did the mortgage overpayment calculator today and saw that it would save 4 years

  • Ok and now for the humble pie eating contest where I take back every criticism of my wonderful OH. We have a family (my) wedding in Toronto in June that I'm obligated to go to but was kinda dreading as I don't really do the whole family gathering thing. The net result of being the failure from the 7 siblings.

Also, in was resenting paying lots of money for a trip that was a must do rather than a want to do. Today when chatting this thru my OH pulled the rabbit out of the hat. He has been squirrelling away avios points that will totally cover one of us and that we, along with tesco, may be able to stretch to two. He has hotel points and a voucher that will get us a 4 night stay in a v nice hotel in Toronto for the price of 1 and he has access to an upgrade if we factor in a week in ny given the other savings we will make. How amazing is that!

  • So back to work for a few hours yesterday with 3 scheduled today. Found it tougher than expected. Maybe my op took more out of me than I thought! On plus side, got some extra assignments for the firm, on the minus, not sure I'll get the resources to deliver these. Still it keeps team jobs secure for another month. Bit of a spendy day though I took advantage of working in RoI to save approx 20p per litre on diesel. Had my dd with me so that meant beverage break plus purchase of Irish Cadbury chocolate - it tastes different. Hoping for NSD today but that depends on whether I can get a free car park space. Fingers crossed
