£33.47 spend today in Tesco. My tips for next month to myself are:
1) I will be trying Lidl to see if I can make my pound go further.
2) Referred back to the first page of this thread for advise and next month I'm going to draw money out each week and even if it means I have to use a calculator round store I'm not going out (though I may have to do that late at night!!).
3) Meal plan better to avoid the need for little shops
4) Use my slow cooker got given for christmas
5) try batch cooking. Right now I buy enough to eat in a week. I look at advice from blogs by Frugal Queen and Mortgage free in three and they often talk about eating out of freezer. Right now there is ice and a few odd peas which have escaped and thats about it!!!
6) OH and I eat soup for lunch found fab tom soup recipy on Good Food so will be trying this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2075/tomato-soup

Spent $8 on Golden Queen peaches and nectarines, so will be bottling tomorrow.
A hunter/gatherer friend dropped in with 10kg of venison and a crayfish (nz lobster) so I guess I ended up ahead!
Will turn most of the venison into salami and share it with him, but the crayfish is mine, all mine, mine alone. Apart from OH who will no doubt claim half.0 -

Since it is getting a bit on the cold side, batch cooking some chilli this evening suggests itself (enough for about 10/12 portions). When I was going through the cupboards and freezer on Sunday afternoon stocktaking, there was quite a lot of mince that had my 3 months sticker on it which runs out at the end of this month (also noticed a couple of pork shoulder joints from Mr Ms when they were on offer with the same date on them).
Some of the items at the back of the freezer had no sticker at all, never mind a price and an estimated use by date.
I am not particularly keen on kidney beans, so use baked beans instead. I may use some of the chilli as a base for a spicy cottage pie.

Hullo
Mid-ish month update ....
Funds are quite low, however not overly worried as have got most stuff .. Topped up butter and veg stocks
Would have been a little higher at this point, but was tempted by two things .. Both were good deals, but have taken their toll on January .. They were .....
1. Sainsbugs offer a 9p off fuel voucher for £15 spend on household .. Cleaning stuff, loo rolls etc ... Needed washing powder ... This is the only cleaning thing we buy as all our other stuff in Ecover and we buy in bulk twice a year and refill bottles .. Anyways .. Needed a fuel top-up so went for huge special offer washing powder and a mountain of loo rolls .. With coupons only paid £8.50 so quite good as today got £5.40 off filling up tank! Plus have enough powder/rolls to last till end Feb!
2. Although not buying any meat this month (just working through freezer) could not resist a piece of Rib Beef in the bargain basement at Tescolditz ... £9.80 for a huge chunk ... Will not be eaten til Feb, but thought was worth the hardship
Did an inventory of freezers (am no slap dash buyer, but had more than i thought) and have around 30-plus meals worth, so can cruise on through to February
Estimated that will need around 9 more £1 4-pinters of milk, plus eggs and bread to last out the month ... Here's hoping for smooth sailing
