  • 2 NSD's in a row for me, living out of freezer and cupboards till Saturday much to husbands horror as he says they're "empty"

Took lunch to work today and will be doing same again tomorrow to achieve my 3rd NSD hopefully. Made chicken in honey and mustard sauce with rice for tea. Now trying to finish all the cheese and cakes before diet starts!

Yes you can cook it off but when you weigh the fat which you cook off and deduct it from the mince you bought you realise that the mince wasn't such a bargain after all! For instance-500g with fat cooked off probably ends up as 375g-now compare that to the cost of the leaner mince by recalculating the price per kilo!

This is a good point! I do tend to go for leaner if my budget will stretch to it, but then I've noticed that lean mince is up to 12% fat, while normal is around 18%, so not a huge difference - I will do the maths next time I'm in to see what works out cheaper for the actual meat content.

Hi I went to the dentist today - which is only a stones throw away from the 99p shop!!!
While we are managing quite well food wise, theres quite a few cleaning products suddenly running low!! Anyway I was very good and only spent £7.92. All needed so here's hoping I can b just as strong at the weekend when I will need to get some groceries
  • Oh Bluegreen those cookies look delicious! I'm regretting giving all my chocolate away to work colleagues now.

Another NSD, but am working on my meal plan for the week this evening.

Been fairly organised today. I've made stock out of a chicken carcass and then turned it into soup. I've also used up lots of surplus milk, cheese and bacon and made 2 quiches to freeze. With the remainder if the pastry I finished off my HM mincemeat and made 7 mince pies. Off to visit family for a few days so hoping to spend very little - I will have to be organised even more to take snacks and food for the journey down and back. Pleased I've almost cleared the fridge though :j

We have an actifry and it's amazing and you can use spray oil. We do everything it it, but to be honest the chips are the best - just done with spray oil, they taste amazing and turn a spud or two into a good traditional favourite which is low cost and low fat : )

Mine is still in the box but just found this site - will have a play at the weekend :)

Well that was Nsd2 and I'm well pleased with myself. Was supposed to be going shopping but decided we could manage a bit longer without. Tried making a cauliflower and macaroni cheese (not made either in years) which the family loved so will be making the them again and very in-expensive!!

    Hi,
I haven't posted for ages, but would like to get motivated & join in again if possible please :o
Our first spend of 2014 today in Mr T's, I've also done an online shop for Mr S as I had a voucher for £15 off a £60 spend, it's not due for delivery until Saturday, so I'll update my signature with the definite amount then.
I'm going to aim for £400 a month to start, but would be over the moon to come in under that!
    Good luck to everyone :)

    Hi all :)

I have a bit of query re: NSD'. Do you count a NSD as not spending money that counts towards the grocery challenge or a day of no spending whatsoever? I assume it's the latter, but if not today would be a NSD for me in that i haven't spent any of my grocery money, but i've spent money on other things budgeted for elsewhere.

Food shopping tomorrow at Aldi where i expect to spend around £40 and around £20 in Morrisons on extras that i cant get from Aldi, but this should last just over a week as we go shopping every 8 days in line with my partner's shifts.

    Suze :)

Well OH can't find the recept from NYE but he says that, apart from the sausages, everything was a snacky treaty thing so he'll pay out of his own money :)

The sausages were the outdoor reared ones and were £2.99. I'd have bought two packs as they're two for £5 but he probably thought I'd shout at him if he spent so much so can't win really :rotfl:

Made some T***y's chocolate orange cookies earlier using a chocolate orange I got in my stocking (only baked six, popped the other 12 balls of dough in the freezer - there's just the two of us so I kind of think 18 cookies is too much :rotfl:) and they were absolutely gorgeous, went down a hit with OH so would recommend. Just made my usual cookie recipe but used chopped up chocolate orange in place of chips. Think I read the idea on here, so whoever mentioned it - thank you :D
