Hi Meg .... horrible isn't it!?

Can I please ask if it was you who gave me the apple chutney recipe? If so, could you advise what else I can put in place of dates, thanks?

Sorry it wasn't me, but any dried fruit should work instead of dates.

I have used raisins before and that was nice.

  • Small spend yesterday in local T3sco for milk and a big bag of xmas pretzels which were reduced to 34p. Total was £1.73.

Had gammon which was on offer at Ald! for dinner yesterday with hm chips, egg and baked beans. Haven't had this for ages so it was a nice change. Sausage casserole tonight, which I was going to do in the SC this morning but haven't had the chance, so will make it this evening instead.

Freezer is full and we've got plenty of essentials after buying more milk yesterday so shouldn't need to buy anything for a few days.

Hope everyone is doing well :)
Thank you to everyone who posts on here :)

Hi there can I join you? I need to get a grip on my food spending as I think its probably in excess of £600 per month as a mixture of supermarkets and local butchers. Anyway I think I can make some big savings as I love to cook and always have far too much food in cupboards and freezer.
New years resolution was to use up food better and be more frugal. We spend far too much as a family on rubbish and we should be able to save up for a nice holiday if all goes well. S so I started by using all the Christmas leftovers of cheese and cream so I have a lovely homemade quiche and bread and butter pudding in the freezer!
I set myself a target of £400 on groceries for January and then depending on how well I do I will adjust accordingly!!
Needed milk today so went to al*i and spent £21 (milk, butter, chicken, sausages, fruit , veg, fresh OJ) quite pleased with that as I didn't buy anything I didn't need!!
For lunch I had a pack of noodles thats been in the cupboard for about 2 years!! It was really nice with some bread and butter.
Dinner will be leftover homemade chilli con carne from earlier in the week probably with some potato wedges made in the actifry.
I am also tracking my non spending days and will try and have more of them!!! I will try and and post every day to keep me on track!!

Spent £4.00 yesterday on extravagant purchase of pecans, fromage frais and mascarpone ch to make a pecan dip to go with my stilton choux buns (I was meeting friends for a social and knitting night - I do know how to live :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)

Been careful shopping today as I'm organising DS2's 6th Birthday party for Sat. I decided that as children really don't want a lot to eat at parties just cake and crisps, I would avoid time and hassle and make individual packed lunches for them with crisps, sandwich, yogurt, raisons and a bun, with cucumber, carrots and grapes in pots on the table. From my experience (DS2 is the youngest of my 4!), this is not only economical but also saves time making food which some children wont even touch! Anyway, party food so far comes in at £30.00 having shopped around at L!dl and A*da. :j. I've got to get fresh rolls for Sat, but so far I'm pleased with this. Now I just need to get sorted with the cake........He's asked for a cameraman cake (he's boat mad!), and specifically the netting across the hull and a personalised sail!! That's me busy for the next couple of days then :eek:

Sig updated, and still well under target..

Spent £1.48 yesterday on 2 loaves of YS Genius white bread, one has gone in the freezer and the other is currently in use.

Hope for a NSD today. Having a major anxiety attack over a letter from local sheriff's officers to Himself, a schedule of inhibition, to do with the car despite the fact that we pay £50 weekly on DD absolutely religiously. The agreement was direct with car finance company, made ages ago now, so very confused why sheriffs are now involved and why they intend to ban us from ever disposing/dealing with property in Scotland.

Trying desperately not to get too upset/angry as I will cry and I have to work in an hour!! :(

  • Spent £10 on a round of drinks at the pub at lunchtime today, but it was nice to get out the office, and I ate my lunch before I went so no spending on food.

    Hi everyone,

Welcome to Anzac Biscuit and spendinglikemad - I will add you to the list in a mo.

Just had two NSDs but needed milk today, so as I was collecting a JLew!s order from Ws I got 2 x 4 pint milk, chorizo, broccoli and brown rolls. Total of £7.28. Will update sig in a mo.

Dinner last night was M&S pork sausages with Yorkshires, steamed savoy cabbage and cauli cheese. Tonight we will have SC pork in apple juice. Have added sliced onions and a diced eating apple. We will have this with broccoli, savoy cabbage and mash. Was meant to have the SC pork last night but forgot to defrost the meat doh!

For lunch I had a toasted muffin from A!di with fried egg and ham. Delish.

Meg - hope you feel better soon :)

    Have a good day all
