Something personal
What about little notes, letters, drawings in the post daily like a little story
Bit random and bit strange I know
But a good way to show you think about her often
This is not as 'random' as you think.
When my OH was away operationally I used to make sure I wrote everyday... just a ramble about the funnier things and the odd joke here and there.
When you are away from home it is the normality and the familiarity that you miss...
We used to play noughts and crosses, hangman etc just by letter / email just to have some continuity of a conversation and to have something light to write about rather than the reality which for my OH was living in a war zone and for your niece it's getting weighed and measured and 'treated' everyday.
I'd say that 'little and often' would be better than one big parcel to be honest.
General gossip and chit chat, teenage magazines, nail varnish transfers or whatever... it'll give her an ongoing feeling that someone is still thinking of her and that she's not forgotten.:hello:0 -
I spent a long time in hospital as a teenager and the things I loved were fluffy, comfy socks, nice looking loungewear type PJs, decent shower/bodywash. Also I received a colour by numbers thing that used coloured pencils rather than paint, easy to do anywhere. Perhaps a bathrobe if they have a shared bathroom that's away from the rooms - fluffy, comfy stuff. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

The only comment I would make is that if the OP does include magazines, vet them carefully for diets etc2014 Target;

Yep - I believe they are on a magazine ban at this current moment in the unit .........its not just the diets unfortunately.. its more the photos of celebs, models etc etc from what i understandBaldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
Check with the clinic what they will allow you to send. They may not allow certain things, and they will almost certainly check anything that gets sent.
The following were appreciated by someone I knew in a clinic:
Smellies
Books. I got some novels, and also bird and flower books, so she could do something when she was allowed out in the garden.
Fuzzy felt (it was a joke, as they were going through a stage of not allowing anything in to the clinic that might be used to cause harm. Even pencils were banned!)
Slippers and socks
Don't send it all in one big parcel. Do little parcels regularly with a letter.
You sound very caring.0 -
Couldn't agree more with some of the previous posters.
Sometimes a day in hospital is unbearably long and boring, even a couple of emery boards and a sweet little note can make the world of difference to your day.
Little and often, even if it takes quite a bit more effort on your part is really likely to be appreciated. Though all the ideas for PJ's and such are great also.
She's lucky to have a caring Aunt. Hope it goes well.0 -
You sound like a fantastic aunt.
I wish I had someone like you when I was at the height of my eating disorder.
I don't have anything to add other than what previous posters have suggested but I just wanted to say that I hope that your niece makes a full recovery. I've struggled with an eating disorder since I was 9 and I know how incredibly hard the journey is. Every step forward, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction.2019 Wins

I was sent flowers when I was in-patient. They really made me smile and I was so grateful.
Lush products. Oh, definitely. Water temp will be controlled, ( one of my fave indulgences when leaving was a bath hotter than like warm!) but even bath bombs can be crumbled up and rubbed.
Decent writing paper and perhaps a sketch pad. I drew a lot.
