NYE going out or staying in?

Everywhere is getting expensive, so staying in to celebrate, and buying food and drink at a supermarket.
Local pubs are charging about £10 entry fee for the New Year, and central London clubs are charging up to £40 each for New Year - http://nye.latenightlondon.co.uk/0 -
It was a funny night driving the Cab on NYE, people think you're going to be mad busy all night, but it's probably one of the quietest nights of the year. 'Cos the pubs are so busy people want to get there early to try and get a seat, so we'd be busy early on but by 7.30pm anyone that was going out were already out, and nobody would go on a pub-crawl going from pub to pub 'cos the pubs were charging to go in.
So between 8pm and midnight you could sit around and you'd be lucky to get more than a few short fares. Of course as soon as midnight came the radio and roads went wild with punters. All of them complaining for having to wait, if they'd phoned half hour earlier there were Cabs galore sitting around empty.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I'll be staying in and spending NYE alone.
I spent 10 years working in the pub trade. It's nice having some peace and quiet on NYE.
I like to think about what I've achieved in 2013, and then look forward to 2014.Attempting to make £2021 in 20210 -

Enjoyed reading all your plans. Definitely inspired me to keep it quiet and simple. Got lots of books/DVDs I think I am just going to catch up with those and most importantly not spend anything!
Got some messages from the party squad - only seem to hear from them if there is an event on, otherwise, they don't want to know :S I don't really like talking about debt problems to everyone but here I find it very supportive. I used the forum before and became debt free, I WILL do it again!
Have you read this article? 3/4 of Brits staying home this NYE

I went out last NYE and spent about £60. It was a Latin dance event, these things can be really costly especially if they have special guests performing or teaching. I find it one of the hardest things to cut back on, as it's my passion in life. Also health and fitness.
This year a lot has changed, in terms of my earnings AND attitude to spending. I aim for the end of next year to have found a better paid job and to have cut down as much of my debt as possible.
Let's do it, 2014 here we come! Here's to a Happy, Healthy and Financially Better year!
Have a nice one!:DAchievements:
9 Aug 2021: Achieved a perfect credit score on Experian (999/999 points - Excellent)
Debt free date: 23 July 2021.
Next goals: Save deposit as a first time buyer.
Find ways to increase income
Further reduce budget/ sell old stuff
Goals for October 2018: Eliminate unneccessary spending0 -
Another one here having a quiet night in with my children!
I went to the shops yesterday and bought a couple of bits on reduced that will be fine for tonight. We are also on use-up mode and I'll be making up a small buffet of random stuff for the kids to eat during the evening!
To be honest, I've always thought of NYE as an overrated, expensive evening out and I think as I'm getting older I prefer my own company anyway. We will be watching films that I have on record, using up the baileys and mailibu and then watching other people's fireworks at midnight!0 -
Shopped at Tesco yesterday morning, store almost empty and plenty of reduced items.0

Maybe it's because I'm pregnant, or maybe because I'm getting old, but the thought of going out tonight just fills me with dread!
After work I will be chilling with OH, watching TV or downloading a free film using a SKy credit I was given and eating pizza we've got in specially!
Happy new year all

Does anyone else think that this comment doesn't sit right with the dozens of people on MSE working hard for many years to pay back money owed?
