Ebay threatening me with Debt collectors

Yes I see the point of sending recorded. I always did that when I started on Ebay, but I read someone's advice on MSE saying you are covered for cost of 1st class stamp x 100 if you get POP, so I did that from then on, since buyers were always challenging cost of postage.
I am quite certain this guy got the tickets, his whole manner was fishy from the start.
Thanks for all the useful replies and advice!

You need to read the postage sticky for what is covered under what service. Tickets are only covered by Special Delivery, not 'recorded'. There is no 100 x 1st class stamp cover.....
You cannot be certain he has the tickets unless you can prove delivery, which you can't.
So you should have refunded.
It's not any more simple than that.
Fish have nothing to do with it.0 -
Op doesn't matter whether you think the buyer is pulling a fast one or not, the fact is you have no prove, You should has used a traceable method of delivery this is to cover yourself. As you have not had clearly being chased for this the best solution for you is to pay up and make sure you use traceable method in future for goods like this. Pay up otherwise you may face more costs and being banned from ebay maybe0

It probably wouldn't be too hard to find the buyer on Facebook or Twitter (given that you have their email address). They may have posted about the concert they have been to or one they were missing due to tickets not arriving.
The majority of ppl have their Facebook set as private, so to see a status about it the OP would have to send a friend request.0 -

Ebay annoys the hell out of me as its weighted more to the buyer than the seller. last year or so i started selling olympic coins on ebay. sold many and have to say royal mail only had a 85% success rate with delivering these. it gets me that i offered standard 1st class and the option of special ( recorded doesn't cover coins) yet when a buyer chose 1st class and it didn't arrive, why should i be liable if i had POP. if they wanted to insure for delivery the option of special was offered. i never made a profit so gave up. a few weeks ago, my seller account was updated as feedback left was proven to be inaccurate due to a member claiming for non arrival multiple times in a short space of time!!0

Well its simple
dont offer 1st class
Why should the buyer pay extra for postage? As you find out,the postage method is in your interest, not the buyers.
To use your logic, why would you offer non insured postage?
You dont happen to send them in envelopes do you?0 -

You would be surprised how easy it can be to find people by email, in many cases.0 -

I have 700 feedback and have ebayed since 2004, so I do 'Have a clue' I also am a really busy person, and have other things in my life to worry about, Ebaying is not a job for me, its just a way I get rid of unwanted stuff.
I have the audacity to say he scammed me, as he didn't reply or acknowledge my friendly email to say I had sent the item and then he waited 10 days to contact me, on the day before the event, since Ebay were promoting their Buyer protection scheme every time one logged in, it would seem to me he chanced it for free tickets.
Ebay contacted me, as the card I had registered wouldn't work. Rather bizarre, since it worked perfectly well in shops and other online stores, and still does.
Thank you to Soolin and all the other people who are genuinely interested in helping.

perhaps your buyer has a busy life too?
You had the 'audacity' not to reply to the dispute they opened.
perhaps they assume you didnt actually post them?
If you are too busy for eBay,then why use it?superflygal wrote: »Yes I see the point of sending recorded.
