Ask them if they contact you if it could be an issue, or you could wait till interview to discuss & see what happens.it's a pain when vacanies don't say what hourly rate they are offering...anyone been to an interview where they were asked what wage they were looking for? or do they normally just tell you at the interview?
I have just applied for one and don't know what to ask for it I get an interview.

I wouldn't attend an interview without knowing the wage on offer. Simple as that.
If a company goes all coy about the wage they will pay, it's a pretty sure bet it's because it's a laughable wage.0 -
I'd love to find it within me to say "well how much are you prepared to pay" when in this situ
Bat it back in their court
I had this once, being asked at interview when the pay was 'competitive' turns out they did have a set figure, I was way out even with research! needless to say I didn't get the job, which is why I hate these questions at interview, so recently and more honestly I just say lets be politically correct, NMW is £xx.xx0 -

Had interview at one of their branches, wasn't NMW they do tell you beforehand the salary, very professional during whole process
looks like they can accept speculative applications too0 -
my last interview was for a car hire place, a national company, working with the customers, inspecting the cars on return, opening up etc etc min wage! oh and zero hours :rotfl:
Wasn't EuropCar was it?
I had one of those interviews myself a couple of weeks back. They seemed interested in someone who could sell extra insurance more than anything else. They rejected me due to 'lack of experience'

Yep! Had a few of those. Tricky question to answer esp. if one is new to that field / sector. Say moving from retail to IT for example. I guess the best anyone can do is find out what the going rate is for that industry / sector (as much as is possible) and work from there.0 -
I did attend an interview this year where the salary was advertised as "competitive", the interview was going well until the director mentioned the salary on offer.
I burst out laughing and advised him that we should terminate the interview as we were wasting each others time.
Few years ago, while on 43k I applied for another job with salary stated as "competitive".
Some girl called me for an interview and at that point I asked what the salary was (on the phone with her) , again she replied "competitive", I insisted she tells me the scale/brackets at least. Finally she did saying "everyone here starts at the same £7.50 per hour before they prove themselves and move up". To which I replied that I have already proved myself with years of experience and certificates of qualifications that I could wallpaper a room with and that I am not going to waste my time attending an interview for a job that pays a fraction of what I was on at the time.
I really feel it should be a legal requirement for companies to advertise a salary with all job adverts.0 -

From my experience I would totally agree for a legal requirement as "competitive" is often an excuse for a pizz poor salary.
Now I simply refuse to apply for anything that doesn't list salary and package.0
