Mobile speed camera, or something else?

I wish I had but we'd have needed to turn around and I thought my husband would know - he was in another car.
Once I described it, he was curious too as he somehow managed to completely miss it and it's been bugging us ever since.
We said earlier we might take a drive and see if we can spot it again and ask them.
I was going to suggest a dash cam, as you can capture scenes after the event, but then I notice you were not in your own car, but then I remember you can get dashcam apps for smartphones, I'm still sure though it was an APNR reader.0 -

That's why I asked - nobody seems to know for sure and, yes, I'm none the wiser now!

To be honest I have not seen a tripod used for some time and the ones I have seen looked like a camera flash so they may have changed since.
I still think the ANPR ones always have a pursuit vehicle with them to catch offenders.0 -

Maybe it was anpr and the pursuit vehicle had gone for donuts.0 -
I passed a camera placed on a tripod at the side of the road and a van was sitting in a lay by just past it.
It was a smaller van (not transit size) and had no speed camera markings that I could see.
There were two guys sat in the front, wearing fluorescent jackets and I think they had some electronic equipment on the dash but I may be wrong about that.
The van was facing away from the camera so the men were not watching traffic themselves unless they had a screen in the front of the car (I think they did) and it wasn't situated to take photos from the back of it in my opinion. It wasn't really big enough for anyone to sit in the back of it either in my opinion.
Was it a speed camera? I've never seen anything like it before.
This was Herefordshire and they usually have transit sized vans with a camera in the back window, and they are noticeable as a speed camera van.
Probbably dvla. I see them all the time near my work doing the same.0 -

That's what I thought but my husband is adamant he's seen an ANPR van a few times without any police officers. He said it was a transit size van and clearly stated what it was on the side though.0 -

I know, his point was this weren't the usual vans, but they probably have different types, or so many partnership ones.
Sad or not, we're going to have to go back and see if they are out again!
