The post above mine, and every other response, is accurate. I can't disagree with you, as you haven't actually presented an argument other than asking people to show some love.

What should the OP expect? Not to pay for the energy they've consumed? I have to, and I don't see why the OP should be absolved of this responsibility.

I am not sure why you are saying the last paragraph to me - I haven't said that the OP should not be paying. Even if the OP decided that he wasn't going to pay, legally there is no leg to stand on... and he probably realises this

There are some serious failings with NPOWER and I doubt this is the last thread we will see on this topic as they make more and more mistakes, and although I check my account regularly - maybe too regularly to be fair, I know many people do not. Luckily for me, I have saved up the money that they haven't taken from me - but when NPOWER do ....eventually ......issue us a bill, I shall take my own sweet time in paying - right at the last minute, and ask for compensation as well.

I completely see the lack of payment as their problem, as there is only so much I can do by repeatedly contacting them - I cannot take threatening action - whereas they could - for example if I didn't pay they would potentially disconnect my services - we cannot force NPOWER to take our money if they cannot get their customer service right in a fair amount of time

You won't find an argument I have presented, as that isn't why I use these boards, to start pointless arguments with strangers. I couldn't give a toss if other people don't agree with me - I don't need to justify myself to myself in that manner. I wouldn't waste my time trying to get strangers to agree with me and then resorting to put downs as display of my frustrations that the world doesn't agree with me.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it would come across so much better, if you were able to put across in an eleqent manner rather than resorting attempting to patronising people - who have clearly come on this board looking for help with a problem. Attempts to start silly arguments and patronise people just make the user like a frustrated child

We appear to be forgetting that the OP asked, in her first post, 'where do I stand?'

In another post the OP declares her income as £16k a year; and this will now reduce as starting maternity leave.

IMO it is implausible that the OP 'had no idea' the DD wasn't being paid.

As so often in this type of thread, the real question is usually 'what can I get away with not paying?'

It seems to me that an £80 goodwill payment, a 12 months interest free loan, and a further period of an interest free loan whilst paying back the debt, is adequate compensation.

I with op on this as npower never sent me a bill all year. I asked and was told I should get them quarterly. Yes, my head was not in the sand andi was paying bits online But I also changed my tariff which took them four months to do. Better still I opted for paper bills but they sent me an email to log into account to see latest bill which is dated May but has recent reading on!

Why do people keep confusing this situation with having an interest free loan? Not really sure where this idea is coming from. Quite a few posters have reiterated this idea.

I also can find no evidence where the OP asks the question 'what can I get away with not paying'..

NO wonder the OP has not come back to this thread as quite a few people on here making no sense - I am wondering if folk are drunk already!

The question was "where do i stand?". Well, where does he think he stands? He used the power, he has to pay for it. He should have put on one side even though npower messed up. I dont really see any reason for compensation as the op has not lost out, if anything he has gained from any interest he may have had. Why people are saying interest free loan i because he spent the money which should have gone to npower so in effect has borrowed money from npower and now they want it he has screaminv blue murder and absolving himself of any responsibility to look at his own bank account.

    Evidence? On an internet forum?

What I stated was ' IMO it is implausible that the OP 'had no idea' the DD wasn't being paid.'

IMO = In My Opinion - reasonable on an internet forum??

On a £16k a year salary, not noticing £1,500 had not been taken is, IMO, implausible.

The more so if you read her previous posts when it is apparent that she has sensibly weighed up all financial options before planning a pregnancy.

The OP had already submitted a formal complaint, and was informed of the situation by Npower. Not happy with that answer, went back to them and had an initial goodwill payment of £40 doubled to £80 before starting this thread.

So what was the point of this thread? other than to see if there was a way of further reducing the amount that had to be paid back to Npower? i.e. ' what can I get away with not paying'.

    P.S.

If a DD is not paid, surely the effect is to give the account holder an interest free loan. (as well as the discount for paying by DD).

It is not a loan. Legally it is not a loan. You cannot be entered into a Loan without a Loan Agreement or your consent. That would be against the Law. Unless, of course, it is a loan via a family member (or maybe a loan shark, I wouldn't have any experience in that area)

I think folk have a general habit of judging people by their own standards. You would have noticed if it hadn't been paid, but not everyone is as perfect as you, clearly

I get the impression that the OP started the thread to see if other people are in the same boat, and I for one am, as I mentioned earlier - along with many others I believe.

After the general messing about our household has had to endure, attempting to get NPOWER to correctly bill us, and this still has not yet happened, me ringing them to prompt them, and emailing them - I will be asking for compensation too. If am going to be doing their Administration work for them, then I expect paying for such.

Sorry I am baffled can't believe they have not checked their bank balance at all in a year considering all the available aps on mobile phones. I can check my balance and also my direct debits on my phone while waiting for a bus or in my lunch hour so am fully aware what goes in and out, any savvy person would be fully aware of what direct debits are going out and what they amount to.I pay by direct debit for my gas and electric but I also know approx when my bill is due, surely they would of known at least after 6months they were due a bill. Yes npower are a little at fault but am sorry but they are not to blame with this day and age of the internet people need to be more switched on as we have the power at our finger tips it only takes a minute to check.

Really! Thank you for that gem!

  • ... Just because the DD was not debited in no way stopped the OP from logging on to their npower account and make manual payments. Quite simple really...
