Anyone Know About Satellite TV?

We specifically want certain channels though. It would be simple and cheap to get a random selection of channels but the ones which are available for free aren't exactly much good.
I did have some success looking at IPTV boxes initially as they seem to provide all the channels we want. However, the reviews they get on Amazon suggest that the technology just isn't there to make them at all usable.0 -
The problem is that the satellite beams tend to be tightly aimed at the general area of the countries where they are intended to be received. As a result, it usually means a much bigger dish than the domestic ones used to receive Sky etc. As already pointed out, it's also necessary to direct the dish towards a different satellite and so a motorised dish would obviously provide the most flexibility.
I'd ask others in your locality whether it is possible to reliably receive the channels you require before parting with any money. A satellite specialist rather than an actual Greek company might be your first port of call.
The only other option is to watch via the internet…0 -
Thanks a lot for your help, need to think about how much I want to spend

I'm just a bit further up the M1 and can confirm that these channels are receivable in the UK with a suitable decoder , card and dish pointed at 9E. Although I have a 1 metre motorised dish a smaller one would do but I couldn't definately say what size would be required but a 60cm one I suspect would be big enough.0

OTE uses the spot beam transponders 70, 72, 76, 78 and 84 with a 50-60cm dish in Greece. As such, I think it unlikely that such a small dish will work in the UK.

Nova might be a better bet as it transmits from Hotbird at 13°E.

What makes you think they use a spot beam? Your Lyngsat link lists all transponders as using the wide beam. On the Eutelsat website I can only find a coverage map for the wide beam and the signal strength over a lot of the UK is enough for a 60cm dish. My 1 metre scans the channels with some margin here in Huddersfield. Not that this is of any use to BarryRiley as he can't put a dish up where he currently lives.0 -

If you have a smart TV or Roku box with an internet connection you can sign up to Hellenic TV via Freeview channel 225 (Vision TV). No dish required.
