I do worry about him feeling like I have him under a tight leash  He does say he doesn't feel that way, but his actions speak louder than words!

We tried having our own 'money pots' in our own bank accounts but he kept getting overdrawn and as he never checks his account he always added overdraft fees etc too it without realising. We kept having to move lump sums from our joint account to his to clear it and that was when we decided that we needed to just have one joint account that was managed / kept on top of.

Not sure what to do really as I am the one who checks our bank balance etc. Maybe try getting him more involved? I'm not sure he is very interested though, have tried showing him YNAB before and he didn't seem to care (or be excited :rotfl:)

You mean he doesn't get excited by budgeting?! Heathen! :rotfl: Seriously though, keep holding him accountable - it sounds like he depends on your financial sense to keep him on the straight and narrow. I don't know what to suggest to get him more interested/involved though... his apparent disinterest might just be head in the sand behaviour. I know mine was in the past.
  • Hiya all, another payment to the ol' cc. I maybe able to squeeze one more before chrimbo but I'll have to wait and see. I'm up to 71% though so I'm well chuffed with that :j

  • Well done Pablosammy! Roll of honour to follow :)

Pepperoni - Can I check your figures for the spreadsheet - I have your target at £12,477, so do you want me to put you down as £8000 paid, or do you want me to put you down as £7,977 paid (£4,500 left)?

  • Right everyone - only one week left for this challenge! Where has the year gone?

I've just updated the front page so hoping you can all have a quick look-see to make sure I have all your totals right for the end of the year. Hopefully I won't have missed anyone, but I want to make sure I capture everyone's hard work over the last year!!

Thanks minicooper! Scary that it's only a week until Christmas, but looking forward to the final celebration post for this year's challenge :) You've done an amazing job!

    Well done everyone!

I've just made my final payment of £1,000 (bonus!) leaving my debt at £4,500. Thats around £8,000 paid off in 2014 and I've been on maternity leave for half of it! Just shows how much we were wasting previously!

OH did make a comment last night that he'd been buying red bull on his way to work (baby insists on waking up at 5am!), as I check our bank everyday and use YNAB I knew this hadn't been coming off our joint account that we agreed to use so I could keep on top of our household spending. Seems his old bank card hasn't been cut up, and as all of his salary goes into the joint account, these purchases have been coming from thin air. Hopefully when he checks his balance and tells me it, it won't be too eye watering!

Could you maybe buy a crate of Red Bull and have it in the house so he can take one to work everyday? Got to work out cheaper than buying one from corner shop etc plus it could be budgeted for. Or maybe buy him one of those travel mugs (£land) so he could make himself a coffee to take with him on his commute?

Doesn't really address his "Secret" spending but maybe it will help him realise that there are other ways of doing things? My DH loves thinking he's "solved a problem" when he finds a different way of doing things and it saves us money! :rotfl:

Payday today !! All paid up for this month. Not going to screw myself over the long festive period as it's 6 weekends until next payday.

Left to pay on MBNA card is £250 which I will roll in to the 2015 thread.
