Doesn't change the fact its someone doing them on the side at a network. If they get caught or there's an audit then it may be relocked without you knowing.

Chances of it happening are slim, but given these type of unlocks usually cost more than the "direct" way of contacting the network its not usually money saving.

I can't see that happening look how many have been done though eBay alone

And when you think about it how long would it take to disable all the phones done....i think they could use the time and money it would cost to better use

Yes its illegal But it should also be illegal for Orange taking to long to do the proper job...Making people wait over a month sometimes.

    It's certainly not 'illegal'.

I said it was unlikely, but an "official" Orange lock that will never be reverted costs £20, looking at Ebay these back door upgrade cost £70 or so and may be undone at any time.

If people want to go via ebay that's their choice, but they should understand what they are getting, no guarantee of continued unlocking and a very slim chance of any redress if it does lock.

I see your point with the price and would be nice if Orange could Unlock the phones quicker then people wouldn't have to go else were
if people are not in a hurry to get there Orange iPhone Unlocked then go though Orange which as you said is more safe

One point to remember is that the person that Selling the iPhone unlock though eBay is also being charge every-time he uses the apple sever so apple are still getting paid.....Well that's what I was told by a shop don't know if true or not.

My understanding is Apple will allow access to the unlock server to the networks. If the Ebay person has to pay their inside man that may be the case.

Don't no it was a mobile phone shop that told me

May be that's why Orange take so long to unlock the phones because the person is working on eBay as well and putting the eBay one first because he/she is making loads of money :rotfl:

My theory is that person at Orange is on the fixed salary and on the commission from the friend from e-bay. Hence, it's in their best interests to artificially slow down unlocking at Orange thus pushing desperate customers to ebay.

Those 'millions' are not doing what the OP wanted, which was to unlock the phone. If those hobbyists want to pay every time to jailbreak (following an iOS update, which relocks it) it is about the most un-MSE waste of money going.

    Dont update it.
