Hi everyone. Not sure this is in the right forum, so please move it if appropriate.
My OH wants to join the freemasons (can't for the life of me understand why) and we have been invited to an afternoon summer social event. I'm very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl and have absolutely no idea what the dress code will be.
Has anyone been to one of these things? Am I expected to be lady like and wear a dress or can i get away with jeans or casual trousers? It is meant to be "themed" but i'm going to take a pass on that. OH is also struggling with the thought of not wearing jeans, are combats suitable? We're a scruffy pair
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

My uncle is a Freemason and the events are definitely not jeans affairs. I'd imagine that a summer social event would be be fairly smart - for you, a nice skirt or trousers and smartish top, and for your OH a shirt and trousers (maybe a tie?). The Masons in my uncles lodge were all 'older', so the events did tend to be a bit more formal/smarter, but I'd say that in any case jeans and combats are a definite no, especially if you're trying for membership. Think garden party ...0

Hi
No scruffiness I'm afraid, these are rather formal affairs. A smart trouser suit, dress, skirt and jacket etc.. will be fine.

 I don't do smart . I wear a uniform to work and jeans and t-shirts out of work, and I haven't been invited to garden party or wedding in over 10 years (my mates just don't get married). Emergency shopping spree required I think.0

Funnily enough, My DH has also been asked to join too. There is a 'dinner' on July 14th where we are both invited. Now I'm panicking as to what I should wear!!

So what exactly is the point of being a Freemason? It sounds like a bunch of overgown boyscouts.0

My Dad is a freemason and so was my grandad when he was alive. Most of the evening socials are smart like already mentioned. Don't worry, OP, you'll be fine! You said it's themed - what's the theme?
My Dad's lodge does a load for charity and it's given him something social to do which pleases my mum as he's out at lodge meetings once a week so she gets to stay in and eat cake in front of the TV.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0
