  • Just worked up a budget for Christmas 2014: £200 - this is for 6 adults & 8 children.

Also did a similar exercise for the birthdays: £130 for 12 people (a mix of adults & children).

This doesn't include the money I contribute at work towards birthdays - £2 a month (January - November) = £22 which buys cards/flowers/wine and this year also made a contribution to our Christmas lunch bill. :)

If it is a special birthday (40, 50 or 60 etc) then we normally each contribute something e.g. £5 towards a bigger present. From memory there is only one special birthday in the office next year unlike this year which had 3.

I need to think of something to buy my mum for her birthday in January. I was thinking about a handbag (medium sized) but my budget is only £25. Would this be enough?

Any suggestions of where to look on the high street would be gratefully received.

Debenhams have some nice handbags in their sale.

I feel really ungrateful.. my mother got me 2 tops for Christmas and not only are they far too big they are hideous.. god knows what she was thinking!!! So.. how do I politely say 'these are hideous don't get me a smaller size get a credit note and I'll choose something myself?'

Make out your doing her a favour.

' To save you fighting through the sale crowds or searching for the tops in the store, just get me a credit note and I'll pop in there when it's quieter. Or if it easier and you've got the receipt I can change them next time I'm in town. ':D

Ive ordered enough foundation and powder to last me till at least September plus 5 deodorants, 3 shower gels, enough sulphate free shampoo and conditioner for the year, a new hairdryer set and 3 facewashs that usually last for 6 months using the vouchers I received for Christmas, total price £130.75. Actual cost to me = 75p now that is the kinds of mse I like. :)
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

    2015 £2 saver #188 = £45

That is the reason why I rarely buy anyone clothes for Christmas or birthdays - you can buy the wrong size so easily.

Thanks to On My Own for the recommendation - I'll pop to Debenhams when I'm in town, which will probably be on Saturday, and have a look.

Thanks but a bit late for me - never realised they ever did free delivery codes.

Hello - I'd like to join this thread as 'holly and ivy' and your great tips and advice of all things Christmas helped me so much over the past six months.
Sorry I delurked and then lurked again but will try to become a more active poster on here next year. We had a much better Christmas this year, which was great, especially as we have had a tough few months. I'm so chuffed that it has all been paid for without going into debt for once.
Got a few small gifts for next year and all wrapping paper sorted out but like the idea of trying to get sorted by end of November for 2014. Might even try some Christmas recipes next year. . .
Could I be added to the birthday list please, mine's May 27th.

    Hello and welcome KATMUM :)

DS is well although he has not yet ventured outdoors yet. Must admit I've enjoyed shutting ourselves in and the world out but we will be brave soon, I promise.

Oh PINKSTEPS i felt the same when DS and DD1 went back to work on friday, i just still wanted us to be shut off to the world a bit longer, glad DS is getting on ok with the splints
