if they can't prove where it's gone it might be worth looking at the police for help as it could possibly be a theft. Its the only way I can see you finding out who bought the bed and checking it out.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

Cheers for the reply.
I will contact the Police, if I have had no joy with the Auction Room . I dont want to ring the Antique Shop just yet as they may sort something out between them ie , Paperwork , Lot numbers , Name of Buyer.
Im amazed that reputable Auction house would of smashed it up so thats why I rang.
If they just said it HAD sold first for £2, and made up a buyer and Lot number and wrote it on my invoice , I wouldn't of bothered to question anything!
Fairs, fair I put it there to sell any way.
I will keep you informed if anyone is interested.
Thanks again0 -

I've yet to find a totally reputable Auction House. I'd rather trust a used car salesman.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

I wouldnt even know where to start looking for one, assumed the majority of people would control the auction themselves and put something that your happy to see go for a couple of quid onto eBay
Unless there are some really identifying things on the bed you're going to have little chance of proving anything and even if you do prove it was your bed then there is nothing to say it was rescued from the skip. Whilst they say it was "smashed up" I wouldnt take this to be literal, unless they run some form of anger release away days then its simply been broken down enough to get into a transit van or equiv which very possibly didnt require any damage being done to it.0 -
Yeah ! I have began to gather this now, after some horror stories, Ive heard.
Never used one before and thought it would be exciting...not! I could of stuck it on ebay.
I just am quite upset , If it was the same one. How very devious.0 -
I know, Hindsight and all that.
I had to drill holes in the base for my base [which I kept and funnily a new base has been made for the one I found online] to stay on so I could easily identify . Yeah they could fill them but you would see them , I would , I would know where to look ,and its been just been re-polished..mine was very old and wood gets a build up.
I do use ebay and love to see my stuff going to good and genuine places, and only for pennies. Generally Ive paid pennies so I dont care about what I get back .
Its the stories. It had not sold in the first 2 auctions, and it came to light it sold in the 3rd which is not on my invoice , only 2 dates are shown.
They say it was taken to the local tip! ... Then sold , then not wanted?!! so "Smashed up and put out for the bin men". ha! not even taken to the tip! ...If they got £100/ £200 for it in their pocket thats a bonus... when the one on line sold for £600.0 -
Certainly where I used to live, put anything "out for the binmen" and it was gone long before any binman got to see it. Laughed when the council sent round a thing about their collection service.
Ultimately it may not be yours, it may have been broken up hence why a new base has been made, it may have been sold on and they are lying but I doubt they'd bother making a new base just to hide a small identifiable hole. You are unlikely to prove anything so chalk it up to experience in my opinion0 -
It was very old. It had two iron 'Jigsaw' fitting rails made by Aris, for the old sort of metal sprung base, hence the age. They are very hard to come by now , thats why I had to drill the holes to hold a large wood base to the head and footboard which sat on the rails .
1-0 to the Auctioneers..........for now .
They must drink Horlicks .

I suggest you write a detailed description down whilst its fresh in the memory of anything unusual about it, so when/if you goto the police it should help your matterbigmouthstrikesagain wrote: »It was very old.
