People can be so mean sometimes.

Got a phone call from my mum last night...someone has stolen the decorations we put on the memorial bench for my Dad and Grandparents.
She said one decoration was left but had a bit snapped off it, and there was the remains of a cut cable tie.
How can people be so thoughtless?
I'm not sure what I wanted out of this post, and I know people have far bigger worries and problems than this. I think I just needed a vent.

Really sorry to hear this HBS. Such a thoughtless act that causes a lot of heartache.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0

Vent away, it really is a mean thing to do:mad:0 -
It wasn't even like they were expensive - some sparkly reindeer and snowflakes that you hang on a tree! Mum checked with the council and it definitely wasn't them - you can decorate benches as long as it doesn't obstruct people sitting down.
Hope karma has a good bite of the thieves sometime!

Just shows how low some people can go, probably p!!ssed and celebrating Christmas ( Oh the irony!!)
Sorry this happened to you and your family ; this country makes me ashamed sometimes.Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those affected (Benjamin Franklin) JFT96...YNWA0 -
How sad

Best case scenario maybe whoever did it didn't know the bench had been decorated by the family and just thought it was someone else having a bit of fun. Still inexcusable but not so personal
Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
It is a low act and I would be upset too.
If they weren't that expensive, I think I would go and and buy some more, and maybe attach a label to them addressed to the dearly departed. (I wouldn't particularly mention that the previous ones had been nicked). If they disappear again, then I wouldn't necessarily replace them but I'd maybe take a photo of them in place after I'd put them on - it is the thought that counts.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Thank you everyone.
The benches have metal plaques on with names and dates on so it's obvious it's a memorial
Not going to let it spoil Christmas though - the love is there. Definitely going to take a photo next time though!

I know this probably isn't the case, and I have watched far too many syrupy Christmas films this Christmas already, but maybe it was someone who'd lost their job or something who wanted to make Christmas special for someone they love. It is still very wrong, of course.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. That's really mean thing for somebody to do.
I'd bet it was some kids who have no respect for anything and just seem to want to vandalise things rather than someone actually stealing the decorations.
I appreciate the end result is the same though.0 -

Maybe. I kinda hope it was, in a way.
Thing is, I'd be happy to help someone who is in that situation - many years ago a friend fled to a safehouse from an abusive relationship, and she only had a small bag of clothes. She loves Christmas, so me and my ex grabbed a small tree and some cheapy decorations and helped her decorate her room.
Ah well. Just gotta let it go I guess.
