Debit Card Decline - what to do ?

As my bank, Natwest, seem to have ongoing problems with their system lately, I would never go shopping without an alternative card to hand.
Why cause yourself stress?
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -

Having to check with the bank, to see if card was at fault, or blocked by the numerous attempts of M&S.
as mentioned.... "I was at fault for trying to use my card for payment whenI should have gone to an ATM and withdrawn cash"0 -

as mentioned.... "I was at fault for trying to use my card for payment whenI should have gone to an ATM and withdrawn cash"Surely common sense would dictate that if you try the same thing twice and it doesn't work, there is no point in doing it 'many
Which is what I told the M&S sales assistant who tried almost a dozen times, only for the till to spit out a card declined receipts.
Arent they supposed to give me the receipts for my records?0 -

Whats the point in giving you a receipt saying that the attempted transaction was declined? It's not going to show up on your statement to do any reconciling with.
Now, the definition of insanity is constantly trying the exact same thing and expecting a different result, so maybe the till operator was insane?0 -

I've heard of trying the card again, but twelve times is just idiotic.
Unless the customer was insistent, which it sounds like they were here...urs sinserly,

Doesn't answer the question. When the debit card failed. You could have offered your credit card. So where's the inconvenience?
To be fair to the till operator it's a very busy time of the year. So a less than helpful customer probably is the last thing they need.
After all it is the season of goodwill.0 -

Yep, I insisted they keep trying, knowing that eventually my card would be blocked.......
which is why I suggested using another card rather than the suggestion made by M&S.
Not impressed that card was rubbed, wetted, by M&S when trying to get their reader to read it.
Visiting bank tomorrow for a replacement and a reasoning of whos system was to blame.0 -

They will ask you to put the card in the chip and pin machine - if it works it was not their fault - if it doesn't work the card is faulty and they will order a new one.
If you want them to say it was their (bank) fault I think you will be wasting your time.0 -

They'll blame the party who isn't there. It'll go like this:
"Your card does not appear to be damaged and the chip is functional. We see no logs of M&S attempting a transaction, so we would assume the fault will be in the M&S card reader or the M&S network."
and since you have no evidence to the contrary, you can't really argue with that.
Not sure what you mean by "The card was rubbed, wetted, by M&S", did they really tip liquids onto your card?0 -

wetting they fingertips by mouth and rubbing card, also rubbing against clothing (assume this would increase any static).
Anyway, as bank or M&S cannot own up whose to blame, can only mean the card holder is at fault.
Have requested a replacement card from bank.0
