indeed, so you phoned them twice, to see if you were covered for a fence blowing down?
No, I phoned them once to enquire about the fence and once to find out about a query being classed as claim after reading the post on here.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

oh dear, another who believes what they read in the daily newspapers....Exactly, if this were indeed the case, then nobody would dare telephone their insurance company with any kind of query, which is totally ridiculous.
Hi melbury (and mgdavid)
As you don't believe the newspapers, here's a quote from Experian's website:The Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) is a database of incidents reported to insurance companies, by policy holders (as required by their policy terms and conditions) which may or may not give rise to a claim. It holds details of these incidents for six years for Home and Motor claims and an unlimited time for Personal Injury Claims.

And, as an example, an extract from Zurich's t&cs (which is fairly standard for all insurers) :Claims History –
Under the conditions of your policy you must tell us about any Insurance related incidents (such as fire, water damage, theft or an accident) whether or not they give rise to a claim. When you tell us about an incident we will pass information relating to it to a database. We may search these databases when you apply for Insurance, in the event of any incident or claim, or at time of renewal to validate your claims history or that of any other person or property likely to be involved in the policy or claim..

So I guess it depends how you define an 'Insurance related incident'. I guess you believed it to be an 'Insurance related incident', because you phoned your insurers about it.No, I phoned them once to enquire about the fence and once to find out about a query being classed as claim after reading the post on here.
"Is my query being classed as a claim?" was not quite the right question to ask.
"Has my query been recorded as an incident on any insurance database?" should get the answer that you are looking for.0 -

Thanks for the information but I certainly don't believe it is an insurance related incident because they don't cover fences, so why would it be of concern to any other insurance company who also wouldn't cover fences?
When it is a query about something that no insurance company covers anyway I don't understand why it should be logged anywhere.
I can understand if you enquire about something that is indeed covered by your policy, but not something that isn't by anyone!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
You have experienced (and reported) a "loss".
Whether or not you were insured against it is irrelevant as far as disclosing it is concerned.0 -
Surely it also depends what exactly was said? A query about what is covered by a policy is not the same as reporting an incident (which may or may not be covered by the policy, or become a claim).0

Sounds all to do about nothing. So if I have my camera stolen and report it to the police then I've suffered a loss that I need to advise the insurance company about.
Move on OP. You'r not covered sadly. Get a price for some new posts etc. If you use concrete ones in future you might lose some panels but won't lose the posts. A DIY job for sure I've done all 3 sides.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

I moved on as soon as the insurance company told me I wouldn't be covered for the fence.
I just can't believe all the stuff on here about an enquiry counting against you.
Anyway enough on the subject, I will come back when my insurance is due for renewal and advise accordingly:)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
