my hubby was wondering the same thing...maybe it has something to do with once an issue is identified you have to return to the departure airport if you are no more than XX miles away? Or something...will be interesting to find out.
Looking at Virgin's website it looks like there is no return flight tomorrow so at the very least they only have to deal with one lot of returning passengers and not today's and tomorrow's...today's VS044 is delayed until tomorrow afternoon. We were thinking that it might get a bit difficult if they had a knock-on delay of another day what with NYE crowds and hotels perhaps being a bit scarce.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
and a 90% chance of snow for NYE! Hope that doesn't impact stoneman or anyone else flying out soon.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

Just seen the Virgin flight LGW to LAS today has had to turn round to do a NON standard landing.
Looks like it is back on the ground at Gatwick OK though
It did get down ok thank god, one of its landing gear was stuck, pics all over the news sites now
Saw this, insane. Never witnessed something like that with my own eyes. I'm afraid I'll quite my frequent flying regime when I do :rotfl:0 -
For those wondering why the plane didn't just carry on to LAS.
IT HAD ITS LANDING GEAR STICKING OUT
So pilot thinks, "I know, we could just make it another 5,000 miles with some of the landing gear sticking out of the plane, what could possibly happen"
This obviously happened when they took off and the gear was retracting, you can see by flight tracking they immediately took a route out over Cornwall and over the Atlantic, they usually go up the countryThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Well social rewards have royally screwed up. I sent emails asking when our redemptions would be completed and got replies saying that they can't see on their system that we asked for it!!!
Despite me having 2 emails on the 20th confirming that we had asked for 3000 points each.
I have sent them copies and told them to get their finger outThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

IT HAD ITS LANDING GEAR STICKING OUT
I don't think I realised that initially (I knew it was a problem with the landing gear, but not necessarily that it was sticking out) but it's obviously a pretty important point and presumably would have had an impact on fuel consumption as well ...and even if it wasn't sticking out, a friend with close family who are pilots said 'you also don't want to go across the ocean and be low on fuel and THEN try to sort out your landing gear. you might not have enough fuel to fly around and figure s*** out' which is a fair point.
As for snow - it was more snow in Vegas for NYE I was worried about - I would love to be there once when it snows, just so long as it doesn't screw up arrival.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I left Vegas the day a large snowfall was predicted one December.
It's the only time I've needed coat scarf and gloves in Vegas -it was freezing.
The tourists were moaning and the locals were mega excited it was going to snowI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

This is one for the regular visitors with lots of experience-
We have been to Vegas twice and are planning our next trip. Trouble is we have to do things differently as my hubby is disabled. The firs time we went he could walk ok and as it was our first trip we filled our time going round the hotels and a trip to the Grand Canyon.
Last time we did pretty much the same but this time no Grand canyon, just wandered the hotels and went to lots of shows. He is now in a disability scooter when we leave the hotel so we are limited as to where we can go. Last time I seemed to have walked hundreds of miles!!! Other than a trip to Freemont Street we stuck to the strip.
Now my BUT-
I feel that there is so much more we should be doing other than just wandering the hotels during the day. We are not pool people and would rather mooch!
Hiring a car would have been a must a few years ago but now is not feasible because of the mobility scooter and also the fact that he is uncomfortable in cars due to his condition.
Last time we went to Freemont street but to be honest I didn't enjoy it much, felt a weird atmosphere so we only had a few hours there.
What I'm really asking is- can anyone tell me of anywhere worth a look that is off strip but walkable. Obviously everywhere is a long walk so Id rather have an idea what's down a road before setting off walking down it alongside his scooter not knowing if the walk is a dead end.
I just wonder if there are hidden gems off strip that we could try out next time. It seems such a big place to be only doing the same thing each time. Im sure we must be missing loads.
We can take a taxi with the scooter but again need to know where is worth a visit. I love Vegas so much but feel there must be so much more than we have seen and as we have restrictions with his mobility now Im looking for suggestions
I also wondered if anyone could recommend a hotel/casino to stay in that is off strip but still nice that we could try for a change. Ive looked at all the pages and various sites but would like to hear from someone who has stayed if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you all.0 -
All public transport is disabled friendly. You can go a long way off strip with a bus pass. Try it for a day. It will cost $5 each for a pass to all the non strip routes.

We have been all over Las Vegas on the bus.
A few ideas
Visit Off Strip Casinos. The above link will have a list of casinos and the bus route that takes you there. Easy one is Sam's Town. Take 202East as far as it goes, and there it is. They have an atrium there with animatronic bears and wolves. A show goes on regularly. Might not be your thing, just putting it out there.
Just down from Sam's Town is Eastside Cannery. A reasonably new property, mainly a locals joint, but ok for a visit. Up a way towards Downtown is Boulder Station. They have some lovely stained glass depicting steam trains etc. from Sams town or E Cannery, get the BHX up a couple of stops to Boulder Station.
Pinball Hall of Fame. East Tropicana. Route 201.
Atomic Testing Museum. East Flamingo. Route 202.
Maybe think of more tomorrow.0
