You probably realise already, but the best time to go is before ( or during ) races.
If you leave it until afterwards the crowd heading through the tunnel is enormous, and all the teams pack up really quickly with drivers gone and the cars under covers or loaded into trucks so not much to see, except the bands on stage.
If you time it right be there as the winner comes in for tv etc and has a few dozen different photos with different sponsor hats and signs autographs and poses for pics with fans - then watch the bands while the car parks empty.
There isn't a bad view but the seats are better higher up with cushions, backrests, cup holders, more legroom etc. plus exclusive bathrooms for that area.
The speedway staff are very helpful by e-mail and phone with swapping seats and stuff.

Hi yes I will only go to the garage area before the race as we only have one ticket.

As for the seats, we have good seats in sec 4, top of the lower tier right next to the dearer seats in sect 3.

    Not bad for free

    That's brilliant.
Again, not really news, but keep an eye on LVMS.com nearer the time for details of Hauler Parade route/time. If you buy a programme there are usually flyers for free stuff at sponsors, Red Bull, Coca Cola, Stratosphere, Boyd Gaming, Kobalt Tools.
Look out for promo girls for free stuff, before when Nationwide was named Sam's Town there were flyers for free really nice hats and free slot credits at Sam's Town, now it should be any Boyd Gaming place.
Look out for free Lucky 7 Parking flyers (worth $59) and if there free ride alongs near track entrance. Usually free stuff amongst merchandise trucks, posters, drinks, sauces, deodorants, candies, etc ( sponsor stuff ).
Oh...and if you like planes the USAF comes and goes at Nellis base next door all day, even if no official Blue Angels display, watch them do stuff on approach and after take-off, and do fast low level practice over the hills.
The queue from the car parks back to Interstate is epic so wouldn't bother rushing away, regulars seem to hold tailgate parties while waiting. :)

Other than what photome has suggested Google brings up hundreds of hotel sites so perhaps use an aggregator site such as Trivago. If you have a particular hotel you want to stay at contact them direct - you might be surprised!
