We are sat in Costa Coffee at T3 Manchester waiting for our flight to LV via PHL. Half an hour to boarding.

Had what could have been a bad start. We slept in and had to rush like mad to get to the train station. Luckily we always book the taxi much earlier than we need to, so we caught the train with time to spare. It just meant that Tony didn't have as much time to do his hair.
    ;)

    LOL have a great trip

We have had to cancel our Vegas holiday (lowcostusa) for Nov as by chance noted that BA changed our connecting time back up to Edinburgh from 2 hours to 8 hours. BA said we could go via Glasgow but it would cost us £200 each if we wanted an earlier connecting fight. So we decided to cancel.

We are now looking at the United flights from Edinburgh-Newark-Vegas, but the connecting time at Newark to Vegas is 1hr 45 mins, has anyone done this route and is it doable to get our connecting flight??

    Thanks in advance

Hi Eva, when was your original dates ? Have you tried BA.Com for flights then adding accomodation. There are good deals to be had from Glasgow in November.
  • apologies, yes forgot to mention one ticket was a redeem with the BA card that i have had for 7 months.

Thanks, that's why I couldn't get it to add up
I may get a ba premium card now my Amex gold intro offer is coming to an end
Just waiting for tesco to run a 30 percent offrr

Economy seats are 25000 Avios each way (+taxes)
Premium economy are 37500 Avios each way (+taxes)
Business seats are 50000 Avios each way (+taxes)
First are 75000 Avios each way (+taxes)

You pay extra to pre-book seats unless a BA gold card holder or travelling first class.

All these avios bookings include luggage allowance.

Note per person each way. So 2 travelling return in business will be 200,000 Avios + taxes.

Can be worth looking to pay for premium economy with real £££ and use Avios to upgrade. That would cost you £££ + 50000 Avios for 2 people return.

Another option is to get the british airways american express card, that gives you a 2 for 1 voucher for avios bookings once you have met the spend requirement (£20,000 or £10,000 depending on which card you choose).

    Avios calculator here: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/avios-calculator/public/en_gb

remember it quotes for single not return routes.
How much are taxes and fees working out too?
also I find zero availability normally for return flights these days limiting its use greatly

I wouldn't hold your breathe. I've been waiting and the only thing that has appeared is some competition to win avios. At the same time they did do an offer with other airlines miles, so I'm not expecting anything soon. Sadly.

Availability is a pain. Last Summer we took a flight to Huston and back from Vegas and then paid for a United flight from Huston. Not ideal, but all we could get. And we did fly home on the UD of the plane with the bubble.

  • am currently pearl with mlife, but by the looks of it, i will be spending $2000 on hotel for next May and that should put me up a level to Gold so am fine for another year at least. Getting to platinum level will the difficult one unless i can get there twice in 2015/2016

I did laugh - glad it worked out OK in the end and hope you are having a nice time already!
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
  • so a question for you fellow gamblers - how do you go about getting a host? as i am pearl status on purely gambling from last trip and the hotel booking alone for next trip will put me to gold how do i get a host and are they any good for non americans?

I am basically thinking of going back to Montecarlo as i enjoyed the staff and location and looking at diamond suite for $2000 for 10 days but am thinking if i had a host i could possibly get a decent discount on that bill prior to booking it.

My understanding is that as a general rule if your play would be host-worthy, they will come to you.

I am not sure that Pearl would warrant a host but you could try contacting mlife and asking for a steer? It probably depends on what you play.

The only host we have had in Vegas was at Wynn and that was just embarrassing...we wanted some Red Card buffet thing credited to our cards and the Red Card desk said we needed to speak to a host and sent us to her office...so we sat there feeling really stupid next to the $500 (or maybe it was $5000) slot machine waiting to discuss our free buffets we earned playing on penny slots (at a dollar a spin, at least). She was lovely and she did get us some better deals for subsequent trips than our Red Card accounts would have gotten...but then those offers stopped...we assume that they lost patience with waiting for us to turn into big players. :)

My hubby was approached at the slots by a host at Harrah's Joliet who said anytime he wants to stay to contact her...he was so excited until I pointed out that we already get comped rooms there (I do too). :)
