You do not pick up rental cars at the airport - you take a shuttle to the consolidated rental facility which is located on Gilespie"Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0

Thanks for the correction, and apologies to the other poster for the confusion.
they could also go via I-15 and get off at the Flamingo exit then left on LVB - may be faster depending on traffic but going straight up the strip would be most straight-forward to someone new to Vegas and may be a nice first glance at the casinos driving by...we normally regret driving up the strip due to the traffic but we have been loads of times - for a first trip it might be kind of nice provided that it is understood it may take longer.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks Stuie and Owen, I think it is a bit expensive for us, really fancy the idea but will have to see how the gambling goes......so probably a no!0

New to the forum but flew with them a couple of months ago, everything was fine but the IFE was old about 4 films and some other bits to watch, no free alcahol, food was fine. But I found the flight times great as we landed at 12pm and check in at hotel was 3pm and flight home was 2pm and checkout at hotel was 11am so go maximum vegas time. Already booked with thomas cook for next year as got a good deal.
They are giving all their planes a makeover, getting rid of premium cabins and giving economy more room and updated touch screen IFE so might be worth checking which plane your on
Cheers for all that info! Do you know how much drinks cost? Also, what kinda food do they serve, we're on the Sunday flight leaving Manc at about 9:15am. Is it just one meal or a few?
I agree flight-times are perfect for arriving and leaving, and when we booked it was about £250 cheaper than Virgin and £350 cheaper than BA!
Finally, do you know where I might find info on these referbed planes. We've loaded my tablet up with Vegas related films anyway, so we don't have to rely on an old IFE for the journeyCurrently saving and planning for the holiday of a lifetime to Vegas in summer 2014!
5 Nights @ Flamingo -> 1 Night @ Lake Mead -> 2 Nights @ The Grand Canyon -> 3 Nights @ The Mirage -> And Finally... 1 Night @ The Salone Fountain View Suite, Bellagio0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies, we will definitely head up the strip rather than the I-15, will be a good experience...doesn't matter how long it takes.
VegasGuy Glad to hear it wasn't too bad despite lacking in terms of IFE and drinks. Hopefully the plane we are on will have been refurbished but I won't get my hopes up! How do you know which planes have been refurbed?
Owenmc60 We fly out on a Sunday too. We haven't bought plane food but from some of the reviews I read that you get a meal and a snack. Don't know if that's correct though!0 -

Also, has anyone flown with Thomas Cook to LV recently, I've never flown long haul and heard some horror stories about flying with them. Any tips for the flight would be good too!
hi there
My brother and i are pretty much back.We had flown from glasgow to vegas and back (6th july to the 13th-14th really we landed monday 14th uk time!) and we flew with thomas cook.
Its a long flight mate the first few hours are okay you get settled in and excited and you get to that point like how much longer and its like 4hours left and your ll like gee that long!
On the where there they had some tv things on, i was NOT intrrested in any of it. but as far as i recall i think there was grudge match and need for speed,I tihnk there was some kid stuff too as well as radio/music, though what kind of stations i dont know.
on the way back the video thing did not work at all!
as for tips i would recommened taking some books, your ipod,mp3 player.Im not sure what my sis offered me(kindle?) but she said she could download movies for us so that we could watch movies on her thing(im not tech savvy here) and it would be movies that WE wanted to see.*im sure these have to be switched OFF whilst take off/landing*
another tip would be every once in a while have a little walk.,strech your legs.
hope this helps0 -

We nearly always pick up a car and we always go up the strip. the I-15 can sometimes be snarled up and them maybe difficult to get off
Turn right out of the car rental, right again and right again brings you on the the las vegas boulevard.
then after a short while the Welcome to Vegas sign will be infront of you and the Gold Frontage of the Mandalay bay on your left.
We never tire of seeing these 2 as we arrive it doesnt really matter how long it takes0 -

Thanks bobbyhibs We have a tablet so I will load that up with films/TV shows, especially if there's a risk the IFE may not work at all. I'm hoping I sleep a little on the flight to waste a few hours!
photome I feel so excited just reading that. Think it will be the best way to get our first glimpse of Vegas, rolling down the strip in a mustang!
We are going to GC/HD and Red Rock so are going to need a sat-nav. I've seen somewhere that you can hire them in the UK before you leave, is it worth doing or should we just pick one up there?0
