i don't think there's much that can be done about long hauling... and that's not just 'taking the tunnel' now, drivers are coming up with more 'creative' routes to get you from the airport to your hotel.

stories of cab firms putting drivers under pressure, etc.

for first-time visitors, I wouldn't say it's something to worry about - it's not like you're being taken 30miles out of your way, or 30mins... sticking my finger in the air, you might get overcharged $5-10 dollars on your taxi trip from the airport.

when you know the roads, it's a frustration when you know that you could have been taken a shorter/quicker way - then you could ask to be taken a particular way.

my usual tactic is to be real friendly when getting picked up in the taxi line, and say something to indicate it's not my first time visiting :)

I know most people will be heading for the strip and therefore avoid the tunnel but am I right in thinking that the tunnel is of benefit if staying at South Point or Silverton?

Tapping around on the pc today for flights to Vegas, it seems far cheaper to fly via Dublin, presumably due to the difference in tax mainly. Is this something that a lot of people tend to do, or am I missing something? Difference for two people was about £600, less hold luggage etc. Seems to good to be true.

some here have advocated flying via Dublin for that reason...just make sure that whatever your plan is to get to Dublin has enough room in it for delays...flying out the day before and staying overnight in Dublin will add some cost but may be more comfortable and less risky...if your flight to Dublin is delayed the airline you're flying from Dublin with won't have any obligation to sort out a new flight unless you have booked it all on one ticket.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Bl@@dy Dollar at it again. Got my CC statement this morning and $93 taken by them for when we returned the car to TI. Dropped the car off on time, put documents in the drop off box and left.
Now have to go through the hassle of dealing with their customer services, they will obviously try and say I dropped the car off late, because $93 is a days rental with all the extras added on. Had this with them once before and got nowhere, even tried to get my CC company to reverse the charge but they just said that if Dollar say it was brought back late then that's the end of it.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

At that location they don't have anyone that comes up to look at the car. You can either take your keys down to their booth in the hotel or put them in the drop box by the cars.
